Pharmacy or medicine is a field of applied science related to the treatment of diseases, using substances obtained from nature or synthetically to fight diseases and protect the body. In a broad sense, this name refers to a medical profession that specializes in the preparation and production of drugs (pharmaceuticals) as well as the implementation of medical examination, treatment and distribution of drugs.

A person who practices in the pharmaceutical industry is called a pharmacist. The pharmaceutical industry is most directly and closely related to the medical industry (the terms medicine and pharmacy are often used together). The pharmaceutical industry is closely related to the chemical industry and is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs.
The pharmaceutical industry is divided into many fields such as: new drug research, drug production called the pharmaceutical industry; drug distribution and supply business; pharmaceutical management; drug testing (to ensure the quality of pharmaceuticals when supplied to the market).
Pharmacy is based on many different sciences, the most basic of which are chemistry and biology.
Pharmaceutical products are very diverse, including medicines for disease prevention and treatment, from common cold pills and supplements to special medicines for treating incurable diseases. In daily life, everyone needs and uses medicines to different degrees. Therefore, pharmaceutical products are very popular. This is the condition that creates both advantages and risks when you choose to work in the pharmaceutical industry.
Based on origin, in Vietnam, pharmaceutical products are divided into two types:
a. Western medicine
Modern medicine entered our country along with Western medicine. These are medicines produced from chemicals, some types of fungi, compounds from plants and herbs prepared in pure form or some natural compounds semi-synthesized into other substances. A few modern medicines are prepared from animal products.
Modern medicine has strong therapeutic effects and is convenient. However, the main source of modern medicine is chemicals, so it can cause some adverse effects for patients.
b. Oriental medicine
Oriental medicine is closely related to oriental medicine, which is medicine derived from plants, minerals, and animals. Currently, some oriental medicines are still prepared according to traditional methods, others are prepared in modern forms such as tablets, capsules, instant tea... to increase convenience for users.
Eastern medicine is less effective in treating diseases than modern medicine. However, Eastern medicine can treat some chronic diseases by regulating the balance of the body. This is the unique strength of Eastern medicine.
