“Training for comprehensive physical and mental development; creating lifelong training habits for students” is one of the important training goals of Dai Nam University. Accordingly, the University has designed a unique physical training program and constantly innovated the program in line with the reality and needs of learners to increase inspiration for learning and lifelong physical training for students. After being applied, the unique physical training program has received the love and enthusiastic support of teachers and students of Dai Nam University.

Students are excited, no longer haunted or bored with Physical Education

Martial Arts, Yoga, Zumba Dance are 3 main subjects that students can choose to suit their physical condition and interests.

Thai Thanh Tam - a student of class QHCC 15.01 said that the reason for choosing Yoga is to help the body become supple, flexible, and maintain a beautiful figure. Besides, Yoga also helps Thanh Tam feel relaxed and unwind after a hard day of studying.

“Before, physical education was always a “nightmare” for me. However, that fear was gone when the school changed its training program, allowing students to choose their own suitable sport. During the course, the teachers taught enthusiastically and wholeheartedly, helping me learn more basic Yoga skills. Every day, I spend 15 minutes practicing at home to improve my health,” Tam said.

Le Thi Thu – a student of Pharmacy class 14.04 excitedly shared: “The unique physical education program at DNU not only gives us training to be healthy but also creates excitement for learning. Thanks to the dedicated guidance of teachers, I have learned how to breathe, release my body, and balance between physical and mental; patience and dexterity are also trained and applied in daily life.”

Nguyen Thi Huong Giang - a student of class TTĐPT 15-01 also expressed: "I chose Self-Defense Martial Arts to improve my health and increase my self-defense ability. After a period of training at DNU, I feel like I have become a new person, more diligent, neat and slimmer than before. If I can arrange my time, I will definitely register to join the school's sports clubs or attend specialized training courses to practice more systematically...".

Why are Self-Defense, Yoga, and Zumba Dance enthusiastically received by students?

According to Mr. Dam Quoc Chinh - Head of the Faculty of Sports Economics and Marketing: Changing the training program is in line with the progress and requirements of innovation in physical education at universities in Vietnam. The new physical education training program is designed according to Circular 17, with appropriate output standards according to the principle of increasing learning from basic to advanced levels; suitable for the wishes, needs and physical strength of students.

The three sports of Self-Defense, Yoga, and Zumba Dance were selected through a survey of Dai Nam University students before developing the new Physical Education training program. Accordingly, these are new sports for the Physical Education training program at universities in Vietnam; they are popular among young people because of their applicability in life, easy to practice at home, and suitable for the development trend of society.

The new physical education program is also designed to shorten the theoretical training time and increase the practical time. Instead of 75 hours of study with 05 contents: Theory, unarmed gymnastics, athletics, football, basketball; the new training program requires students to accumulate 03 credits, in which credit 1 is a compulsory subject with 15 hours of theory. Credits 2 and 3 are elective sports with 60 hours of practice.

“Such study and training time is appropriate. Students will not feel that the training program is heavy, boring, or imposed, but will be comfortable, free to choose, and practice according to their own abilities,” said Mr. Dam Quoc Chinh.

These sports are also suitable for the physical facilities of the school. Students are trained in a spacious physical space with an area of 1160m2, overcoming the weather and environmental factors that previously always made students afraid.

Students study and practice in a spacious and well-equipped gym.

Students' love and effort are the teacher's motivation for teaching.

The faculty of the Faculty of Sports Economics and Marketing are all young, highly qualified, former athletes and coaches at provincial and national levels; having participated in intensive courses abroad, so the teachers quickly catch up with the new sport and have many suitable teaching approaches.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Nguyen - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Economics and Sports Marketing, Head of the Department of Martial Arts said: The different physical training program helps "dispel" physical phobia, promote the spirit of learning and training of students; at the same time, the rate of retaking exams and retaking classes is also significantly reduced.

“To prevent the subjects from being dry and boring, Self-Defense classes are often flexibly combined with sparring activities, playing games, practicing martial arts with music… to connect solidarity, team spirit and the ability to absorb and remember martial arts movements for students. Seeing the students enthusiastically practicing, no longer showing boredom after each class, I also feel more excited and enthusiastic in each class,” he said.

Representatives of the Board of Directors and Mr. Ngo Xuan Nguyen (far left) awarded certificates of merit to students with high achievements at the 2022 Student Karate Championship.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung - Head of Yoga Department said: "The students' efforts and enthusiasm in practicing are also the motivation for each lecturer of the Faculty of Sports Economics and Marketing to strive to learn, proactively update knowledge, practice new exercises to guide and teach students better".
