Qualities suitable for the medical profession

You may only be in the group of candidates with a score of 22 - 25 points, but if you have the other qualities below, you can still study Medicine to become a good doctor.

Why does studying medicine take so long, longer than other majors (6 years compared to 4 years), having to study both morning and afternoon and also working nights at the hospital? This requires real diligence to be able to absorb knowledge, forming professional skills of a future doctor.

After 6 years, when holding a Doctor's degree in hand, you have not yet performed medical examination and treatment techniques on patients, you must have 18 months of practice to be granted a "Certificate of Practice", only then will you be a real Doctor.

For doctors, when holding a Doctor's degree, their path of study is just the beginning with postgraduate training programs (resident physician, specialist, master's, doctor of medicine).

Therefore, you need to be diligent and patient when choosing a path to the medical profession.

3. Honesty

Deception is always criticized and condemned by society, but deception in the medical profession is much more dangerous and deserving of condemnation. Dishonesty makes doctors deceive patients, colleagues or themselves. Lacking honesty, doctors can hide their mistakes and shortcomings from colleagues and patients, not daring to take responsibility when technical errors occur. Lacking honesty, doctors can also "draw" symptoms and diseases to "scare" patients, as Hai Thuong Lan Ong said: "Seeing an easy symptom, lying is difficult, frowning, sticking out the tongue, scaring people to get a lot of money. That is the crime of deception".

Students are trained thoroughly, in depth, and guided on the job.

4. Courage

In addition to the courage to admit mistakes and shortcomings, doctors must also have the courage to take risks in their work. The Covid-19 pandemic shows us that without the sacrifice and courage of doctors, who would take care of and treat patients in danger? Facing the risk of infection and possibly death, many doctors still stay with patients at emergency resuscitation centers, some doctors forget their personal happiness to take care of patients during the recent pandemic.

5. Non-profit

Do you see any doctors in the list of billionaires in the world as well as in Vietnam? That is to say, if you want to become a billionaire, you should not choose to study medicine. A good doctor with true ethics will not be poor but it is very difficult to be too rich. Currently, there are thoughts that like to study "Hot" majors to easily provide services and increase income outside of salary. But like that, there is no longer the passion of youth. Not to mention the opportunism and profiteering on the lives of patients will lead doctors to mistakes that are very condemnable and punished by law.

Studying medicine is difficult (must have knowledge, high entrance score), requires hard work (diligence and patience) but more importantly, must know how to sacrifice, sacrifice to contribute, to save people... But truly, it is an honor, a mission as if entrusted by God. Therefore, the saying: "first Medicine, second Pharmacy" is always a catchphrase and will never get old!
