CafeF - Vietnam has the opportunity to become an international medical training center

In the context of the increasing demand for studying medicine in other countries, Vietnam is emerging as a new destination for international students. The pioneering implementation of the 100% English-taught international medical doctor training program by Dai Nam University (Hanoi) is considered a step to pave the way for Vietnam's "education export" strategy.
Golden opportunity for Vietnamese education
In the context of the increasing demand for medical human resource training in the world, Vietnam is quickly asserting its new position with many outstanding advantages: safe environment, similar culture and internationally recognized education quality.
Vietnam’s healthcare system has developed strongly in recent years, with a diverse and modern system of hospitals and a team of high-quality lecturers and medical experts. This is a solid foundation for Vietnam to become an international medical training center in the region.
"Vietnam has all the conditions to become an international medical training center. We have a scientific foundation, a rich system of practice hospitals and a team of high-quality lecturers," said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education and Training).
Dai Nam University pioneers international medical model
In the 2025-2026 academic year, Dai Nam University (DNU) opened an international medical doctor training program, attracting more than 500 applications from India and selecting 208 qualified candidates for admission.
On October 10, the school solemnly held the Opening Ceremony of the full-time international medical doctor training program, with the participation of representatives of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Embassy, partner hospitals, along with 208 international students and 100 Indian parents, becoming the first university in the North to train international medical doctors.
It is known that the DNU International Medical Doctor training program lasts 6 years, taught 100% in English, including 2 years of basic theory and 4 years of clinical practice at major hospitals in Hanoi.
The faculty consists of leading professors and doctors from Vietnam and India, helping students master their expertise and adapt to a multicultural environment.
The program is designed according to international standards, combining classroom training, practice at the school's preclinical center, and learning experiences on a modern simulation system.
In particular, students can participate in the Global Digital Passport - a "digital learning passport" that records their abilities, skills and career paths, helping students pursue a medical career in India or transfer to countries such as the UK, US, Australia, Europe, etc.
The school invested heavily in facilities: 15-storey dormitory, Pre-clinical Center, construction of a multi-specialty clinic on campus - a "learning by doing" model right from the first year.
Mr. Le Dac Lam - Vice President of Dai Nam University Council welcomed and sent a message to international students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Trieu The Hung - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society emphasized: "The fact that 208 Indian students chose Vietnam, Dai Nam University to study Medicine, demonstrates strong belief in the quality of Vietnamese education, and at the same time opens up a new direction for cooperation in training international medical human resources."
"Dai Nam University aims to train doctors who are not only good at their profession but also have a global mindset, are fluent in English and understand international culture," said Mr. Le Dac Lam - Vice Chairman of the University Council.
Standardization – the inevitable trend of Vietnamese education
DNU's application of AMGD standards not only affirms its pioneering position but also reflects the trend of standardization - integration - international recognition of Vietnamese higher education.

According to experts, DNU's international medical program could become a model in the "education export" roadmap - something that Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand have done for many years.
Bold move in "education export" strategy
Dai Nam University's pioneering implementation of the international medical program not only has its own significance for the school, but also opens up a direction for sustainable development for Vietnamese education.
"When schools are capable of attracting international students, Vietnam will not only export knowledge but also spread cultural values and enhance the country's position," said Professor and Academician Nguyen Van De - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Private Hospital Association.
With 208 students enrolled, Dai Nam University "set a record" as the school with the largest number of international students studying right from the first course.
With a bold move, Dai Nam University is opening a strategic direction – where Vietnam not only trains doctors for itself, but also trains doctors for the world. If in the past Vietnamese students dreamed of studying abroad, today, Vietnam itself is becoming the dream study abroad destination of international friends.
