“If you don't do business via the internet in 5-10 years, you'd better not do business anymore.”

This is a famous quote from billionaire Bill Gates in 2007, and now in 2022 we are living and working in the period of the fourth industrial revolution "Industry 4.0" - Where the Internet is becoming indispensable.

Over the past few years, the whole world has been struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a real “nightmare” for many economic sectors, but it seems to be a “blessing” for businesses in the e-commerce sector, as online shopping is the only way to get what consumers need during the period of social distancing.

It is not an exaggeration to say that e-commerce will be the hottest trend in the coming years and that is an opportunity for smart and brave young people.

  1. Consumption trends shift towards digital transformation

Overview of Internet users in Vietnam (Source: WeAreSocial)

According to statistics published by WeAreSocial, in 2021, out of a total of 97.8 million Vietnamese people, there were 68.72 million Internet users with a rate of 70.3%, of which nearly 95% used via mobile devices. Along with that, Covid-19 has promoted consumers' online shopping habits, helping e-commerce in Vietnam develop strongly. Vietnam is considered one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in Southeast Asia with a revenue of $13 billion in 2021. Vietnam has become one of the "stars" in the e-commerce market in Southeast Asia.

Entering the post-Covid-19 era, when digital consumption has become a new way of life and digital sellers are increasing, the scale of the domestic e-commerce market has also been positively impacted. Therefore, it also opens up more opportunities for young people to study and work in the field of e-commerce.

Therefore, learning e-commerce is the right step for young people, a smart choice and following the market trend in today's digital age.

  1. Government's policy on developing digital economy

On June 3, 2020, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 749/QD-TTg approving the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030" with the goal of Vietnam being among the top 50 countries in e-government, related to digital economic development, improving the competitiveness of the economy, the goal by 2025 is that the digital economy accounts for 20% of GDP; the proportion of the digital economy in each industry and field reaches at least 10%; by 2030, the digital economy accounts for 30% of GDP; the proportion of the digital economy in each industry and field reaches at least 20%.

In addition, the program also clarifies the role and tasks of the young generation in the development of the digital economy based on the foundation of science, technology and innovation. The State will create all conditions for young people to develop stably, study and practice well, approach the comprehensive 4.0 revolution, and make good use of opportunities from the digital economy. Therefore, e-commerce in the current context has "Heaven's time, Earth's advantage" and the choice depends on you.

Developing e-commerce and digital economy is the policy of the Party and State.

One of the first things you need to have is orientation in choosing a career and studying in accordance with your abilities and strengths. You are updated and equipped with knowledge and understanding of the operations and regulations of e-commerce and the digital economy. In particular, you must have a passion and love for the technology fields of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution that are prioritized by the state for development such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, internet of things, virtual reality/augmented reality, blockchain...

  1. Potential for e-commerce development with new trends

2021 is truly a boom year for e-commerce with sales of $13 billion. According to the report of the E-commerce Association, the average growth rate in the period 2020-2025 is predicted to be 29% and by 2025, the scale of e-commerce in our country will reach 52 billion USD.

Nowadays, online shopping is not a temporary way to deal with the epidemic but a new trend with many outstanding improvements, bringing a more modern and intelligent shopping experience to consumers; followed by the rise of cashless payments and logistics services, meeting the stable growth of e-commerce.

In the future, many new trends of e-commerce will appear such as:

+ Personalize user experience

+ Maximize social media platforms and KOLs

+ Voice marketing trends

+ Application of AR and VR technology in e-commerce

+ AI applications

+ Digital payment innovation

…..

E-commerce is growing with many new trends.

Technology is the foundation of e-commerce development, technology is always changing every day, so is the trend of e-commerce. Choosing e-commerce is a smart choice, but it is also a big challenge for you. You must be really knowledgeable and sensitive to both technology and business to be able to develop in this field.

However, I believe that you are reading this article and you are all part of the Gen Z generation. You were born and raised in the technology era, exposed to technology from a young age and are quick to respond to new trends, so E-commerce can be an attractive field for you to explore.

  1. E-commerce human resources are still seriously lacking.

The rapid growth of the e-commerce industry has led to an increasing demand for human resources. However, according to the Vietnam E-commerce Index Report 2021 by the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), for many years, human resources for e-commerce, especially high-quality human resources, have always been a major problem hindering the development of e-commerce in the country.

According to a survey of businesses, up to 46% of businesses said they have difficulty recruiting workers with e-commerce skills. It can be seen that the human resources for e-commerce in our country are currently lacking in both quantity and quality, because the majority of candidates in this field have not received proper and in-depth training. E-commerce is a key industry, attracting a very high number of students based on the actual shortage of labor market needs.

According to a survey by the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the rate of e-commerce graduates with jobs recorded at some universities and colleges is over 90%. The current form of e-commerce training is mainly based on orders, accounting for 37%; short-term concentrated training accounts for 33%, long-term formal training accounts for 16%, and online training accounts for 9%. According to a survey from companies providing e-commerce solutions, e-commerce human resources are still lacking, with less than 30% of human resources being formally trained in e-commerce, 55% trained in business, trade, information technology, and the rest being other professions. The above figures reflect that the current formal training of e-commerce human resources only partially meets actual needs.

That means the demand for human resources in the field of e-commerce is increasingly attracting young people to study because of the wide range of job opportunities with attractive salaries and a working environment that is always new and dynamic.

E-commerce training at Dai Nam University

Right at school, students can approach the actual work at the businesses that the Faculty has partnered with, and at the same time train and guide them to confidently work at large businesses after graduation.

If you are still confused about which direction to choose, I believe that e-commerce is a great choice for smart and brave young people. Let's find out and try it today.
