Why choose "Dai Nam" for the school name?

In 2005, Dr. Le Dac Son and 12 scientists started to build a project to establish a non-public university, under the auspices of the Vietnam Construction Association. The founding council of the school initially intended to name the school in the project "Dai Viet University" to express the aspiration to build a strong university like Dai Viet during the Le Dynasty (starting in 1428) and Ly Dynasty (starting in 1054). However, in early 2007, "Dai Viet" was changed to "Dai Nam" because Dai Nam was also the national name of our country from 1838 to 1945 during the Nguyen Dynasty. This was a period when our country developed strongly and lasted for more than 100 years. The founding council all aimed to build a strong and everlasting university like the prosperous time of our Dai Nam country.

After nearly two years of building conditions to ensure training quality according to regulations, on November 14, 2007, Dai Nam University was granted the Decision to establish by the Prime Minister; the Ministry of Education and Training granted the Decision to recognize and allow the enrollment of the first course.

Sharing about the decision to name the school Dai Nam University, Dr. Le Dac Son said: “Going back in history, flipping through the fragrant manuscripts, we can see that our ancestors created the prosperity of the Dai Nam civilization era with ingenious and intelligent strategies that expanded the territory, built a prosperous and happy life for all people. The name Dai Nam University is associated with the name of the country - the Dai Nam era and the country of Vietnam. That is also our aspiration - the founders, builders and developers of Dai Nam University. We wish to build a university that will grow strong, last forever with the country and become a "heritage".

According to Dr. Le Dac Son, the name Dai Nam University is also a reminder to “review the past and learn from the present” for every Vietnamese person, especially the young generation - the future owners of the country, to look back at the historical experiences of our ancestors in building and protecting the country of the glorious Dai Nam civilization era; for each of us Vietnamese today to reflect and prepare the “mind” and “position” of a renewed Vietnam, ready to integrate, for a powerful Vietnam and “the thousand-year-old mountains and rivers firmly anchored in gold” as the aspiration of generations of predecessors.

Nearly 1,000 people in Dai Nam's common home share the same will - to be teachers, with the aspiration to develop education and build the country.

Accordingly, after 16 years of construction and development, Dai Nam University is proud to be a prestigious and reliable destination for more than 32,000 students, with more than 20,000 graduates. By 2023, the University will have more than 12,000 students studying in 24 regular university training majors, 5 Master's training majors and 01 Doctoral training major. Nearly 1,000 cadres, lecturers and staff are working, contributing and accompanying the overall development of the University. That is the result of 15 years of hard work, effort and perseverance in carrying out the mission of "Training graduates to have a good life and be good citizens".
