In order to "increase resistance" for new students when entering the new university environment, from September 18 to September 23, 2023, Dai Nam University solemnly organized the Citizen Activity Week to welcome 5,300 new students of Course 17. This is an annual activity before the new school year to help new students understand the mission, traditions, and development goals of the School and Faculty; Different training programs; life skills, safety, and security when living away from home; regulations, rules, rights, obligations, and policies for students.

Deep advice from Dr. Le Dac Son - Chairman of the School Council for new students of K17

Opening the Citizenship and Student Activities Week for the 2023-2024 school year, Dr. Le Dac Son congratulated the new students of K17 on officially entering university, a new journey with many experiences, ambitions and aspirations; a right choice on the journey of accumulating knowledge, finding and understanding oneself.

“The percentage of dollar billionaires who graduated from university is 89%, and the percentage of dollar millionaires is 85%. Although Bill Gates did not have a university degree, he is one of the most educated people, forcing American universities to invite him as an honorary professor. Career development opportunities and income levels for university graduates are also more open. This shows that only university can create a basic and solid foundation for students to develop significantly and build a rich life in the future.”

Dr. Le Dac Son advised new students: University is a journey, not a moment. Therefore, be diligent, resilient and try your best to study; establish healthy, positive relationships, progress together; stay away from social evils; absolutely do not skip school. Make the most of your time to learn foreign languages; exercise to develop comprehensively physically and mentally, create a habit of lifelong physical exercise, etc.

Dr. Le Dac Son advised new students to know how to choose healthy friendships: “Each person has their own way out in life. However, we must step out together to progress, not go into social evils together.”

Above all, save every moment under the roof of Dai Nam University with teachers and friends. Those are the most beautiful and valuable memories in the life of every student.

“The school is committed to providing the best possible conditions for students to study and practice. Teachers will do everything they can to guide students step by step to gain knowledge, skills, and experience so that they can graduate and have a good life and become good citizens. If they encounter any difficulties or disadvantages, students should report them to the school so that they can find ways to resolve and support them,” Dr. Le Dac Son shared.

Useful lessons on life skills, security and safety for new students

In particular, at the Citizenship Week, new students learned about safe living skills when living away from their families. These are attitudes towards life, protecting life, life's pitfalls, saving the environment - saving yourself, and issues of male-female relationships. These are all valuable and dedicated documents directly compiled by Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice President of the School Board; to guide and ensure psychological stability, health, life skills and attitudes for students.

“University is a life of independence and self-care. We need to equip ourselves with knowledge and life skills first to protect and develop ourselves; secondly, to show filial piety to our parents, so that they do not have to worry or be concerned about us,” Ms. Cao Thi Hoa emphasized.

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa shares intimate and frank information about "survival" skills for new students.

The first lesson that new students need to remember is the 5X-5Y principle: Hello, sorry, thank you, ask permission, line up; Love yourself, love your family, love your teammates, love your country, love life. Always maintain a positive attitude, be grateful, have ideals and aspirations, know how to share, love everyone,...

The lessons she imparted seemed very common in life but were surprising to the children's age: they were experiences to avoid traps such as: multi-level marketing, gambling, drugs, pawning, betting; escape skills in case of fire or explosion to protect yourself,... Measures to participate in traffic safely... Especially seemingly simple issues to prevent robbery, snatching, theft, pickpocketing, especially for girls who must know how to prevent risks when traveling alone...

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa emphasized: While being supported by foster parents and school, having free time; should take advantage of it to study and practice foreign languages and skills immediately.

She carefully instructed the children about the issue of protecting their health: that is, showing filial piety to their parents, loving themselves: sleeping on time, getting enough sleep, eating healthily, exercising and reading regularly; making friends with good and obedient people, etc. Having healthy friendships and relationships between men and women, raising awareness of self-protection to avoid future consequences.

She did not forget to remind the students that when living far from their families, if they encounter any problems, they should contact their teachers, especially their homeroom teachers (a specialty of Dai Nam University) for support and advice. They should not hide or “jump on the bandwagon”, the consequences will be very dangerous.

Ha Thi Phuong Thanh - IT class 17.16 expressed: "To protect yourself, whether male or female, in sexual matters. She presented all the situations, consequences and prevention methods. Open, sincere and emotional. That is our feeling. She is like a mother who guides us step by step from love affairs, to sex and consequences. We are really surprised and touched that the school is so considerate of students."

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa asked questions to new students.

The "K17 rookies" frankly talk about love, sex, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases...

In her lecture, she also emphasized environmental issues. She advised new students to prioritize the use of recycled materials, maximize the reuse of plastic products; save electricity, water, paper, limit the use of nylon products; condemn acts of environmental destruction, wasteful use of electricity, water, paper, littering; educate relatives and the community about environmental protection...

Small gifts filled with love and care from teachers are sent to students.

Bui Thi Van Chi - a new student of Marketing class 17.02 shared: "Equipping new students with life skills, security and safety is extremely necessary; especially for students living far from their families, having to learn to adapt to the environment and life in the capital. I am grateful to the teachers and the school for their dedication, devotion and care for students little by little".

Learn more about the School, the Faculty and your rights

At the Citizenship Week, the K17 “new recruits” learned about the mission; tradition; culture; development goals of the Faculty and the University; learning ecosystem; opportunities for practice, internship, cross-country study, participation in movement activities; job connections; student responsibilities… From there, they fostered love and pride in becoming students of Dai Nam University.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Hong - Principal of Dai Nam University shared with new students of K17.

Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong - Vice Principal disseminated regulations, rules, rights, obligations, and policies for students.

Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong advises new students of the Health Department.

In addition, new students are informed about credits, how to calculate cumulative points, fast-paced and slow-paced learning; dual degree learning; regulations on studying, internship, graduation exams, training; conditions for enjoying preferential policies and regimes according to the school's regulations; being considered for scholarships to encourage talent...

“By understanding your rights, obligations, and policies, you can build a study plan that suits you. Most importantly, you can demand your own rights if there are any mistakes or errors,” said Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lien - Vice Principal, Head of Faculty of Business Administration helps new students have a comprehensive view of the Faculty and the field of study.

Career orientation, ensuring 100% of graduates have jobs

Understanding the psychology of new students when standing at the "threshold of entering life" still have many concerns about what to do in the future, where to go, how much salary, ... Ms. Pham Thi Dung - Deputy Director of the Center for "Student Employment and Entrepreneurship" shared a very detailed and profound article on this issue. Accordingly, the Center is committed to connecting and supporting jobs for students right from when they are still in the classroom; 100% of students have jobs in their major with attractive income after graduation.

MSc. Pham Thi Dung - Deputy Director of the Center for "Student Employment and Entrepreneurship" commits to supporting and connecting jobs for students right from the classroom.

The 2023-2024 Citizenship and Student Activities Week will certainly bring useful lessons, add energy and “resistance”, helping “newbies” confidently enter the university journey. At the same time, it will record memorable moments of bonding between new students and teachers, friends, and seniors at Dai Nam University.
