What is Nursing?

Nursing is a profession in the health human resource training system. This is an essential “service” profession, playing an important role in public health care.

Nursing has been developing into a multidisciplinary field of study, with many postgraduate specialties, such as: Pediatric Nursing, Obstetric Nursing, Geriatric Nursing... developing alongside Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

What do nursing students learn?

According to the training program issued by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health, the undergraduate Nursing program will last 4 years (8 semesters).

Accordingly, the undergraduate Nursing training program has 141 credits including 72 theoretical credits and 69 practical credits divided into 8 semesters in 4 years. The program content includes the following knowledge blocks: General education: 35 credits; Industry knowledge is 23 credits; In-depth knowledge of nursing is 56 credits and other additional and elective knowledge blocks.

In the first and second years, Nursing students will study basic science subjects mixed with basic medical subjects, such as: Foreign languages, Philosophy, Informatics, Physics - Biophysics, Genetic Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathophysiology, Histology, Basic Nursing..... and practice 55 basic Nursing skills in the Skillslab room in small groups on models.

In the third year, students will study theory and practice at the Skillslab in the school and do internships at central hospitals in the skills of Internal Medicine Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, Emergency Resuscitation, Infection Control, etc.

Year 4, Continue to study and practice at the hospital the skills of Psychiatric Nursing, Rehabilitation Nursing, Infectious Disease Nursing, Community Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Traditional Medicine Nursing, Nursing Management and Graduation Internship.

What are the highlights of the Nursing training program at Dai Nam University?

The Nursing training program of Dai Nam University is built according to ASEAN standards. The Nursing training program of DNU has 80% similarity in content compared to the training programs of leading schools in the region in Nursing, such as: Mahidol University - Thailand, Osaka University - Japan. In addition, the training program is reviewed, updated annually, and innovated according to the criteria for recruiting nurses at medical facilities in Vietnam and the region, with the following outstanding features:

Firstly, focus on specialized subjects and foundations from the first year so that students can acquire core knowledge of nursing science such as: Nursing theory, nursing process, critical thinking and evidence-based practice. Teachers with good teaching experience are assigned to teach in the first semester so that students can have an early orientation in nursing.

Second, Focus on nursing skills practice: by increasing practice time from 30% to 70% so that students have the conditions and time to practice 55 basic nursing techniques.

The team of lecturers and technicians who are professionally trained in Skillslab teaching will guide and guide students on human body simulation models, helping them gain basic professional knowledge before coming into contact with real patients at the practice hospital.

Third, Agree on the method of learning practical skills at Skillslab. Students are divided into small groups of 5 people/group. Teaching follows the five-step technique of Skillslab. Teachers guide students by hand. Spend enough time for them to complete nursing skills.

Fourth, Students are evaluated and graded for each lesson and final exam using the objective OSCE (running station) method, which is the best current method of assessing skills.

Fifth, Each class has a homeroom teacher whose main duties are to advise, monitor and manage students, connect the school with parents, urge and report to families about students' learning and development.

In particular, Dai Nam University is cooperating with many large hospitals in Hanoi, such as: Bach Mai Hospital, Central Obstetrics Hospital, Central Psychiatric Hospital I, Xanh-pon General Hospital, Thanh Nhan General Hospital, Ha Dong General Hospital... so that students have a basis for practice to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom into practice, and at the same time approach real health care activities at medical examination and treatment facilities.

In addition to training in specialized knowledge, at Dai Nam University, students are also cared for and helped more with other issues during their study away from home. The team of lecturers, homeroom teachers, Youth Union and clubs will always accompany and help students promptly. Admission methods to Nursing at Dai Nam University

- Method 1 considers high school graduation exam scores: admission score according to quality assurance threshold.

- Method 2: consider high school transcripts: consider 03 subjects according to the 12th grade admission combination, score to receive application from 19.5 points.
