Accompanying students from the time they enter school until they graduate and have stable jobs is the policy of Dai Nam University and is thoroughly applied by all faculties. Not only focusing on training; fostering knowledge and skills for students, the school also closely follows the progress of good graduation projects, equipping students with solid provisions before entering the labor market. Grasping and implementing that policy, recently, the Faculty of Information Technology (IT) organized a conference "Checking the progress of graduation projects, fostering job recruitment skills for students"; improving the quality of project implementation, increasing the opportunity to "conquer" employers for K13 IT students.

Secrets to effective project writing for students

The graduation project is a research project of final year students to graduate from school; marking the learning process of 4 years of "hard work" in the classroom. In essence, the graduation project aims to create opportunities for students to consolidate and systematize the knowledge and skills they have been equipped with and apply them scientifically and creatively to solve problems arising from practice. This is the necessary luggage for students to enter a specific working environment after graduation.

Dr. Tran Dang Cong - Head of the Faculty of Information Technology said: "When students start their projects, they are still quite confused, not knowing where to start, how to choose a topic, how to find the right documents, etc. Many students do their projects with the attitude that just graduating is enough, so they do not invest in the project. Faced with this situation, teachers of the Faculty of Information Technology cannot stand aside but must accompany and closely monitor students throughout the process of completing their graduation projects."

More than 100 K13 IT students attended the conference to learn about effective graduation project methods. According to the teachers of the IT department, to have truly high-quality and highly applicable graduation projects, first of all, students need to comply with the regulations required in the plan. However, they should not create stereotyped projects. Young people should be as creative as possible for their projects but should not stray from reality; choose the right and accurate research method, complete the demo product as well as write a clear and specific report to achieve high results.

Dr. Tran Dang Cong shares the secret to effective project writing for K13 IT students.

Don't hesitate to ask your teachers questions.

In addition, students can proactively show their projects to employers so that they can evaluate their qualifications, skills, practical application, etc. At the same time, they should follow closely with their supervisors to complete their projects, avoiding the situation of being "afraid to ask, afraid to share", doing things in a coping spirit, to pass the course.

In 2023, the selection of topics for K13 students' graduation projects will make the most of ideas and practical work at the enterprise where the students are interning. Therefore, the graduation project tasks also emphasize applicability, in line with the work and recruitment goals of the IT labor market in reality.

“Plus points” to win over employers

Understanding the limitations of employees when participating in recruitment, especially for engineering students when applying for jobs; the Faculty of Information Technology invited representatives of businesses to the Conference to share.

Ms. Ha Thi My Hanh - Director of Viet Tinh Hoa Human Resources Solutions JSC said: Passion for technology, carefulness, meticulousness, eagerness to learn, and knowledge improvement are prerequisites for engineers to integrate into technology enterprises. However, to have a good job position with a more attractive income, young people need to improve their foreign language skills, especially English because this is a global profession. In addition, teamwork skills, communication skills, work handling skills, etc. are also important factors for their future success.

Ms. My Hanh said that young people easily make basic mistakes when writing/replying to emails and messages such as: no title, no greeting, no thanks; no content, etc. This is a big minus for employers and can cause you to be eliminated right from the application round.

Second, problems when participating in interviews such as: being late, choosing inappropriate clothes, answering vaguely, being arrogant, ignoring asking questions, not researching the company in advance, lacking enthusiasm, etc. are mistakes that students absolutely should not make.

Students share directly with business representatives.

Agreeing with the above sharing, Mr. Le Quan - Head of School Relations Department of FPT Software said: The demand for IT human resources is very large but the required criteria are also very high. Therefore, students need to pay special attention to improving their expertise, soft skills, etc. In particular, demonstrate their own abilities and strengths and agree with the employer about the job, salary, and benefits right from the start.

“IT is still a fertile land for young people with enough enthusiasm and passion. You will not be limited to web programming but can also express yourself in positions such as Front-End programming, Back-End programming, mobile programming, software quality testing, network administration, artificial intelligence (AI) engineer, bridge engineer…” , said Mr. Le Quan.

As strategic partners of the Faculty and the University, representatives of enterprises highly appreciate the professional expertise, dynamism and enthusiasm of Dai Nam University IT students. Accordingly, enterprises said they will support students in the process of completing their graduation projects; at the same time, create conditions for them to be recruited by enterprises and become official employees.

The conference was a great success, providing students with useful experiences and knowledge before graduation.
