The number of infections in Italy has skyrocketed in the past 24 hours, with 1,797 new cases of nCoV infection recorded, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,172 and making it the second largest outbreak in the world.

Italy is also the country with the second highest number of deaths from Covid-19 in the world, after China, with 463 cases, an increase of 97 cases compared to the previous day. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has imposed a nationwide lockdown to deal with the epidemic.

France and Spain have recorded a series of new infections, with the number of positive cases of nCoV increasing by 203 and 557 respectively. The total number of nCoV infections in France is currently 1,412 and Spain is 1,231, with the number of deaths in both countries being 30.

Germany has detected 1,224 cases of nCoV infection, and recorded the first two deaths, patients in the west of the country. The UK recorded 43 new cases, bringing the total number of infections in this country to 321, including 5 deaths.

The number of nCoV infections in the US has increased to 624, an increase of 83 cases compared to the previous day, and the number of deaths is now 26, an increase of 4 cases.

Burkina Faso, Cyprus, Brunei and the Channel Islands were among the countries and territories that recorded their first cases of nCoV infection yesterday.
