Someone said that leprosy patients are the most miserable of all the miserable people. They not only carry the pain of illness, the humiliation of physical deformities and poverty, but also have to live their whole lives with loneliness and alienation from society. With the desire to bring sincere and warm care to help the elderly at Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital - Hanoi fully feel the approaching Tet atmosphere, feel the warmth of human love and feel secure in their treatment, the Volunteer Student Team (VS) of Dai Nam University continues to implement the program Tet Reunion - Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital season 03.

The Tet Reunion Program - Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital has entered its third year, leaving many good impressions and feelings.

As scheduled, when the first monsoon winds come, it is also the time when the Youth Union of Dai Nam University is busy implementing the Warm Winter program with many practical and meaningful activities: Warm Porridge, Reunion Tet, Warm Winter... Up to now, the Warm Winter program has entered its 7th year, and is one of the volunteer programs that have created the tradition of Dai Nam University students.

For SVTN students, Tet Doan Vien - Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital is a volunteer program that they are extremely enthusiastic about and look forward to.

This year is the third year that the Youth Union has organized the Tet Reunion program for the elderly at Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital. Not only bringing meaningful Spring gifts and a warm year-end meal prepared by themselves, the members of the Team also want to share, ease the loneliness and emptiness, warm the hearts and spread the joy of reunion and happiness before the New Year.

To raise funds for the Tet Reunion program, in addition to organizing donations on a school-wide scale, student volunteers also take advantage of their free time to sell fermented pork rolls and other snacks to raise funds.

Sharing and sincere care touch everyone's heart.

From early morning, despite the rain and cold wind, the members of the Team were present very early at Dai Nam University, main campus Phu Lam - Ha Dong - Hanoi to prepare for the journey to bring Tet to the elderly at Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital.

The road from the main road to Xuan Mai Leprosy Center is nearly 2 km long, cars cannot enter, the members of the Team have to walk and carry all their belongings and personal belongings. Although tired, smiles are always on the lips of the young people.

As soon as they arrived at the Camp, the Team members assigned each other tasks and went to the hospital rooms to talk, encourage, and share with the elderly who were suffering from diseases that were shunned by society...

Ho Huu Cong - class IT 1201, Faculty of Information Technology shared: “ This is the first time I have participated in such a meaningful and touching charity program. Participating in fundraising and preparing for the program, I have experienced many wonderful things that no textbook or lecture hall can teach. And the biggest lesson I have learned is to never complain about hardship because there are many people out there who are suffering more than you. Just give and we will receive much more in return…”

Students personally decorated the hall and stage to welcome spring to the elderly.

Bringing songs, singing voices with innocence, purity, and love of life to warm lonely souls.

Many elderly people at Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital have no relatives and have to live on government subsidies. Every time Tet comes, loneliness and sadness increase. They long for the moments when they can gather with their families and relatives around the New Year's Eve dinner table, welcoming the first moments of the new year. Therefore, the presence of DNU students is a priceless spiritual gift for them.

Warm smiles of the elderly at Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital.

The New Year’s Eve meal, although still awkward, was filled with love and sharing from the young people. The laughter, questions, warm handshakes, and clear, innocent songs and voices partly dispelled the cold of winter, bringing moments of joy to the unfortunate.

“The children came with anticipation and waiting. They left with regret and longing. Thank you Dai Nam University for teaching students to be obedient, polite, understanding and know how to share with the disadvantaged and unfortunate. We deeply appreciate the moments the children brought…”, shared Mr. Nguyen Van Bay – a patient who has been attached to Xuan Mai Leprosy Hospital for more than 30 years.

Many stories and tears were shed during that warm and humane reunion. And what the young people of DNU learned was to live life to the fullest while you still can, to GIVE to RECEIVE more fully.
