They are outstanding Vietnamese students who entered the 11th HYLI forum held in Vietnam.

Let's listen to the experiences of the following students: Nguyen Truong Song Pha (Student of Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Ngoc Quynh (Student of Diplomatic Academy), Dao Le Anh Trang (National Economics University), Hoang Minh Thong (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City).

4-best-start-up-students

The 4 best students who entered the 11th HyLi forum in Vietnam shared their experiences in reviewing for the D-group university entrance exam and how to learn English.

The best way to review for college entrance exams

They have in common that they love economics so they chose block D for themselves.

For Math, Nguyen Truong Song Pha studies a topic every day of the week. For example, on Monday he studies function analysis, on Tuesday he studies explanation, and on Wednesday he studies logic, etc.

Because according to Pha: "Studying like that allows for a more thorough comparison of each type of math, helping to remember better."

As for Literature, Truong Sa said that he had to memorize the plot of the works, as well as the author’s biography and the circumstances of the work’s creation. Because those were the essential contents that had to be memorized. And to do well in English, he had to grasp grammar and have a large vocabulary.

For Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, a student at the Diplomatic Academy, she believes that: "Effective university entrance exam preparation does not necessarily mean taking too many extra classes. I only choose to take one class per subject, but I make sure that class is the most suitable for my ability."

In addition, self-study time at home takes up the majority. Ngoc Quynh shared: “Self-study is the most effective way to study. I often study at home, doing over and over the exercises that I am not yet confident in, and if I do not understand something, I can bring it to class to ask the teacher or ask my friends for help. My review process is relatively good and step by step, I rarely have to try to absorb too much knowledge at once because overloading will significantly reduce the learning efficiency.”

Trang Anh and Minh Thong's secret is quite similar: during the university entrance exam preparation process (and until now), the study method that they always follow is to study early in the morning instead of staying up late. For example, instead of going to bed at 12am, 1am and waking up at 6am, they go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 4am to study.

“I feel that studying in the morning is very effective, because that is the time when I am most refreshed, alert, and focused during the day,” Trang Anh explains.

How to have good English background knowledge?

To become one of the four best students in Vietnam to participate in the HyLi forum - "Young Leadership Talent Initiative", an international forum and have to use English a lot during the participation. All four students are very "super" and try their best to overcome many opponents.

For Trang Anh, the most important thing in learning a foreign language is to be able to apply it in practice. She believes that listening and speaking are the two most important parts. Therefore, Trang Anh often watches English movies without subtitles, both to practice listening and to relax.

This student also regularly visits foreign channels, such as BBC or Discovery, to update news and listen to news reports. Because the voices of these channels are very standard, it will help you practice listening and speaking to practice pronunciation.

To practice speaking, Trang Anh signed up for a volunteer club with foreign volunteers. And speaking English is simply being confident in saying what you think without fear of making mistakes.

Nguyen Truong Song Pha’s strength is English – his major subject in high school. According to him, this subject is an accumulation subject and cannot be mastered overnight. To be good at it, the most important thing is to grasp grammar and have a good vocabulary.

According to Song Pha's experience, you should learn 10 new words every day and make sentences with those words. When doing reading comprehension, you should read the questions in advance because it helps you pay attention to the content being asked.

“It is important to have a passion for the subject. Besides learning grammar to do well in the written test, you need to improve your listening and speaking skills by listening to music and watching movies. Moreover, actively participate in clubs and activities.
