- Mr. Vu Viet Dung! Finance – Banking is one of the majors that is attracting a lot of students. In your opinion, what is the reason why this major always maintains such a high level of popularity?
First of all, it must be said that Banking and Finance is a fairly broad industry, related to all activities in the economy. In the current and future market mechanism, whether it grows fast or slow, this is still a necessary profession because this field is related to the monetary circulation service of the economy and plays a role in guiding the monetary policy strategy. From that, it can be seen that most financial units, organizations, businesses, etc. have positions in Banking and Finance.
In the context of digital transformation, Finance - Banking is a hot field of study that attracts the top attention of young people.
Job opportunities for this major are not only limited to finance and banking but also insurance and securities. Therefore, after graduating from Finance and Banking, students can apply for positions in agencies and enterprises such as commercial banks, securities companies, state management agencies of finance and banking, tax departments, customs, insurance companies, financial companies, etc.
- Specifically, what is the current human resource demand in the Finance - Banking industry, sir?
According to statistics from the State Bank, Vietnam currently has 49 banks, 16 financial companies, over 10 large insurance companies and 105 securities companies. Since the first months of 2021, many banks have announced the recruitment of hundreds of employees such as VietinBank looking to fill 609 positions at 83 branches, TPBank recruiting more than 300 positions at headquarters and branches nationwide; VIB also recruited nearly 300 employees...

This shows that the Banking and Finance industry is always one of the fields with high demand for human resources, the opportunity for graduates to find jobs is easier than in many other industries, especially when the economy is in a period of recovery or prosperity.
- In reality, the rate of university students graduating from Finance and Banking every year is quite large, but recruiting units are always in a state of thirst for high-quality, adaptable human resources. As an employer, what do you think about this situation?
Banks, financial institutions, businesses, etc., in addition to competing for customers, markets, and revenue, also compete to find good, skilled, and experienced human resources. It is forecasted that by 2020-2025, the demand for high-level human resources in the banking and finance industry will increase by 20% per year. Thus, the job market potential for students majoring in Banking and Finance is huge.
The rate of candidates applying for admission to the Finance - Banking major at Dai Nam University is always in the Top every year.
However, the reality is that students are fully equipped with theory about their major in the classroom, but often have little experience and practice skills in practice. At many training institutions, students do not have a financial and banking practice center to study and work. Therefore, after students graduate and start working, banks, businesses, etc. often have to spend time retraining human resources. This not only wastes resources but also leads to a situation where there is a surplus of university-level human resources in the Finance and Banking industry, but a shortage of highly adaptable human resources.
- So, in your opinion, what criteria do training institutions need to meet so that students can work immediately after graduation and employers do not have to retrain them?
In my opinion, each financial and banking training institution has its own strengths. However, a learning environment that meets the need for knowledge, equips practical skills, applies specialized banking software in training; regularly connects, supports and introduces students to internships, internships, and work at reputable banks and businesses; builds scholarship funds, and supports students in their studies will be a big plus, a smart choice for candidates when applying for admission.
- With 15 years of experience in the field of human resources in the Finance - Banking industry, can you reveal what are the plus points for students when participating in recruitment?
The demand for human resources in the Finance - Banking industry is very large.
Besides acquiring knowledge at school, students need to equip themselves with 3 more things to impress employers.
First is attitude. Young people need to show respect for employers, humility, eagerness to learn and progress in their work.
Second is soft skills. The requirements from employers show that professional skills alone are not enough. A diploma with honors is just a ticket to help you get through the first door of the application screening round. To get extra points, you need to cultivate and demonstrate good foreign language skills, computer skills, communication skills, exchange, teamwork, presentation, problem solving, etc. In addition, students participating in writing competitions in the field of finance and banking is also a way to increase achievements and impress employers.
Third is practical skills. Students need to actively cultivate practical and effective working skills during their internships at banks and businesses. You will see that there are many differences between the theory you learn and the practical work you do, so you will not be too surprised when talking to employers about real work.
- Do you have any message for young people interested in Finance - Banking?
