The Encounter of Fate
At that time, Dr. Le Dac Son was the General Director of VP Bank and I was working in Poland. During my return to Vietnam in the summer of 2006, I met Dr. Le Dac Son. Mr. Son discussed with me about the project to build Dai Nam University, but the school's founding council did not have enough financial capacity and experience to continue.
At that time, I was also participating in some real estate projects in Ha Tay province (now part of Hanoi). Because I had spent some years teaching at the Faculty of Mathematics at Hanoi University, and because I loved the education profession, I decided to join Mr. Son, specifically taking responsibility for land and facilities.
In a later meeting at VP Bank, the founding members agreed to let Le Dac Son, Le Dinh Dao, Doan Hong Nam, etc. join and add personnel to the Project Management Board to establish the school. This is considered a “fateful encounter” that has brought us together until today.
“Good land, waiting for Dai Nam to come… to land”
After completing the personnel work, on the one hand, the Project Management Board actively completed the supplementary feasibility report to submit to the Prime Minister, on the other hand, it had to resolutely find a location to build the school to get approval from competent authorities to complete the dossier.
I remember at that time, Mr. Son asked Mr. Dao, together with Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Chau - Former Chairman of the School's Founding Council, to be in charge of developing a feasible training plan, and I was in charge of the facilities.
At this time, I had in hand a number of locations that had been surveyed by the Founding Council such as in Chuong My district, Hoa Lac area... However, Mr. Son and I were not satisfied and we decided to find a new location.
With the enthusiastic help of the leaders of Ha Tay province at that time, especially Mr. Ha Van Hien, the Provincial Party Secretary, personally took me and Mr. Son to introduce some locations such as the field area of Duong Noi commune (near the current location of Thanh Tay University), the field area of Van Yen commune (near Van Phu urban area), the land in Phu Lam commune, Thanh Oai (now Ha Dong district, Hanoi).
After surveying the three recommended locations, Mr. Son and I, after careful discussion, finally agreed to choose the land in Phu Lam commune (which is the current campus of Dai Nam University). The reason is that this land is located next to National Highway 21B, and the road already exists (the other two lands at that time were both rice fields, without roads like now).
Decisive decision
However, the difficulty is that this land has been assigned by the People's Committee of Ha Tay province to the Industrial College to expand its scale and is the Dormitory Area for officers and soldiers of T16 Detention Camp.
To resolve this problem, we had a meeting with the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ha Tay Province. After listening to Dr. Le Dac Son present the development model of Dai Nam University, the provincial leaders were very enthusiastic about the project to establish the school and decided to create all conditions to support it.
This is an important and decisive decision to complete the dossier and submit it to the Prime Minister as a basis for issuing the decision to establish the School and is also the backbone decision to start the process of formation, completion and development as it is today.
Starting from the fields of two communes in Thanh Oai district, to two wards in Ha Dong city, Ha Tay province and now two wards in Ha Dong district, Hanoi city, the choice of location and site for the school construction has demonstrated a long-term strategic vision as well as the ability to seize opportunities. This is a beautiful, convenient, suitable and worthy location for the development of Dai Nam today and tomorrow.
Ten years have passed, not a long journey for the project of building the infrastructure of an embryonic university, from rice fields, now there are spacious buildings, rows of royal poinciana trees showing off their colors, demonstrating a great, tireless effort of the Board of Directors, the Board of Management and the team of officers, lecturers and employees of the project management board.
The University of Danang complex has many completed items and many items still under construction, but we have the right to be proud of the past 10 years and continue to join hands and unite to continue building a spacious, modern, and synchronous Dai Nam University facility to best serve the training work, meeting all domestic and international training requirements.
