“Besides those who are knowledgeable, conscious, and supportive of our traffic direction, there are many people who react, are upset, uncooperative, mock, and even curse. They think that us standing here will only make the traffic more congested…” Nguyen Thi Thu Quynh – a member of the Traffic Direction Volunteer Team of Dai Nam University shared.

Many people call us idiots and busybodies.
In recent months, traffic congestion on Vu Trong Phung Street (Thanh Xuan - Hanoi) has decreased significantly thanks to the help of the SVTN Team of Dai Nam University to direct and regulate traffic. However, not all traffic participants are aware of, comply with traffic laws and follow the regulation and flow of the volunteers.

In the early days of participating in traffic control on Vu Trong Phung street, Nguyen Thi Thu Quynh and the members of the team were often criticized, scolded and cursed by passersby.
“Besides those who are knowledgeable, conscious, and supportive of our participation in traffic direction, there are many people who react, are upset, uncooperative, mock, and even curse. They think that us standing here will only make the traffic jam worse…” Quynh shared.
Quynh added that during the afternoons of directing traffic on this street, she encountered many awkward situations. “There was a couple riding a motorbike, the older sister sitting behind was very supportive of the group’s work, but the boyfriend who was driving resolutely refused to follow our directions, even loudly cursed us, saying we were not cleaning our noses, not studying, but meddling in other people’s business, obstructing traffic…”
That is just one of countless stories about traffic situations that Quynh's volunteer group encountered while on duty.

Despite difficulties and obstacles, the SVTN Team of Dai Nam University still works hard to regulate traffic on Vu Trong Phung Street during rush hour every day.
Opportunity to experience and grow
The navigation work is hard, dangerous and often encounters negative reactions from passersby, but the volunteer students of Dai Nam University are not discouraged or discouraged. On the contrary, they consider this an opportunity to experience and grow.
For Nguyen Cong Du (12th grade student, Faculty of Pharmacy), it was a lesson in confidence and the ability to react to unexpected situations. “Before joining the volunteer team in general and the traffic control team in particular, I was quite shy and timid, not even daring to talk to strangers. When I joined the traffic control team, I made many new friends, became much bolder and also trained myself to stay calm and deal with many situations,” Du said.
For Du, the time participating in the stream was a bit tiring but also full of happy and memorable memories.

Contributing a lot of effort in organizing and arranging the volunteer student group to direct traffic at Dai Nam University, we cannot fail to mention Bui Duc Anh (K11 Accounting) - deputy team leader of the Volunteer Team. The second-year male student is enthusiastic and dedicated to these volunteer activities.
The memorable experience that Duc Anh had was the practical lessons about teamwork, leadership skills as well as practicing patience and calmness in all situations. However, the greatest joy for Duc Anh in particular and the volunteer team in general is that people's awareness of obeying traffic laws has improved a lot compared to before.

“In the early days, we were cursed with many extremely rude words, but later on, the people living around Vu Trong Phung area and traffic participants all supported and agreed with the traffic diversion activities of the volunteer student group. People’s awareness of obeying traffic laws has improved, so the group’s work has become much easier,” Duc Anh shared.
With what has been done, the SVTN group of Dai Nam University has been contributing a small part to combating traffic congestion during rush hours and participating in propaganda to raise awareness and form a culture when participating in traffic in the community.
