According to the labor market alarm, the unemployment rate has been increasing in recent years, especially among university and college graduates. However, statistics in the construction industry show a large shortage of human resources, especially the need to recruit quality engineers who are well-trained in the field of Construction Engineering.

Current status of human resources in construction industry

According to the Ministry of Construction, the human resource structure of the industry includes the ratio of engineers, intermediate professionals, and apprentices at 1:1, 3:3; while in other countries in the world, this ratio is 1:4:10. With this ratio, the construction industry is experiencing a surplus of teachers and a shortage of workers. Therefore, in many large projects, there are untrained workers and idle agricultural workers working instead of technical workers.

This situation is alarming in terms of the need for quality human resources who need to be properly trained, knowledgeable about the profession and have expertise in the job. The number of people receiving vocational training has increased but has not met the development needs of the industry and there is an imbalance between training levels.

According to the assessment, the training organization at all levels and grades is still heavy on theory, with little time for practice, not really connected to the needs of use, with the progress of science and technology and the actual work that students must undertake upon graduation. As a result, when graduating, students have to spend a lot of time getting used to the job, and in many cases, the employing unit conducts supplementary or additional training, retraining.

The construction industry is a special industry, requiring high practical application to be able to work well. Therefore, training institutions need to soon come up with solutions, review training programs, invest in facilities and equipment, and improve the practical qualifications of lecturers to train a quality team for society, building the country to progress day by day.

Construction Engineering – A Promising and Potential Industry

In fact, the construction industry requires the ability to withstand high pressure with numbers and projects, so the rate of human resources pursuing this profession is not much. This is a concern for organizations and businesses when they need a large human resource demand every year but find it difficult to find the right people.

This is a very new, interesting and promising career development. Many job positions can be done after graduating from the Civil Engineering major such as design engineer, construction supervision engineer, project manager and construction costing specialist. This profession requires engineers to be dedicated and passionate in pursuing it due to the stressful nature of the job. Without passion, it will be difficult to stay in the profession.

Currently, Dai Nam University is one of the prestigious universities in the country, professionally training engineers in the field of Construction Engineering, meeting the requirements of professional knowledge, professional skills, practical application ability and foreign language proficiency for work after graduation. Construction engineers graduating from Dai Nam are always a quality resource attracting the attention of employers in leading corporations, companies and organizations today.
