Practice in Medicine – the golden key to becoming a good doctor for DNU students

In order for medical students to better understand the rules and regulations when doing clinical internships at hospitals, and to gain more knowledge, skills and professional experience, Dai Nam University regularly organizes seminars on learning methods and medical practice for students. The most recent is the seminar "Medical practice - the golden key to becoming a good doctor" with the participation of leading experts and resident physicians (BSNT) from different training majors.
Attending the seminar, on behalf of the University, there were: Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong - Vice Principal; Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Duc Hanh - Head of the Faculty of Medicine, former Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Kien - Vice Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (VNU), Assistant to the Chairman of the Council of Dai Nam University, and all staff, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Medicine.
On the guest side, there were: Dr. Le Van Dat (Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy - VNU), Dr. Phung The Thong (Doctor of Oncology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy - VNU).
Speaking at the program, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong highly appreciated the efforts of the Faculty of Medicine in finding quality training methods for students. Currently, the Faculty of Medicine, Dai Nam University has signed cooperation agreements on training, receiving students to practice and work with many large hospitals, such as: Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, E Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, National Children's Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Ha Dong General Hospital, Xanh-Pon Hospital, Thanh Nhan Hospital, etc.
"I hope you will take advantage of the advantages that the school has, study hard to become good doctors with good expertise and good medical ethics in the future," Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong advised.

Sharing the purpose of regularly organizing seminars with leading experts, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Duc Hanh said: “Medicine is a special field of study, closely linked to practice. Mastering professional knowledge but not practicing well will not make you a good doctor. Therefore, through the seminar, we hope that students will clearly understand the rules and regulations and gain more experience before entering the important practice stages…”

Important notes for medical students when doing clinical work in hospitals
At the program, Dr. Le Van Dat gave advice to students when going to the clinic: You should politely greet all medical staff when meeting them in the department or room; Monitor the entire case: diagnosis, treatment, progress, results; Participate in treatment with doctors; Compare your symptoms and diagnosis with doctors, explain the differences; Choose polite words, avoid sensitive words when examining patients.
Students attentively listen to the sharing of teachers and doctors.
Do not interrupt when the doctor is asking about the patient's condition; Do not discuss in front of the patient; Do not judge or gossip about your friends' examination methods in front of the patient and their family; Do not answer when you are not sure; Do not ask/examine too many patients; Do not borrow medical records when the doctor is prescribing medicine or the department is busy; Do not laugh loudly or chat with friends during the shift; Limit eating and drinking in crowded places, do not litter.

In the interaction with students, in response to the question: "What should we do outside of clinical hours to practice and improve our practical skills?", Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Kien said: "An important thing that students need to do after each clinical session is to compare theory and practice, to see if there is any difference in the patient's symptoms in practice and theory... This will help students systematize and remember longer the knowledge they have learned and practiced."
Sharing after the program, Thao Nguyen - a student of class YDK 14.02 expressed: "Through the program, I have acquired a lot of specialized knowledge and clinical experience. I hope that in the future, the Faculty will have more useful and practical programs like this."
