Message from the Head of DNU's Faculty of Information Technology to new students of K16 on the first day of school

Hello new students of class 16, Faculty of Information Technology - Dai Nam University!

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on choosing the right major, because Information Technology is the basic and key factor that makes up the current civilization of humanity in general and of our country in particular.

Teachers of the Information Technology Department of Dai Nam University happily welcome new students of K16.

Information technology is a field that has a global impact. On the one hand, it helps students have the opportunity to access and work anywhere to have a good life, but at the same time, it also represents a "fierce" global competition, and therefore the amount of knowledge required is very large.

The characteristics of information technology are very rapid changes and specialization in many different directions, such as: artificial intelligence, big data mining, robot control in the industrial sector, building automation systems for production processes, mobile programming, management programming, e-commerce...

In the next 4 years, we will climb and conquer those peaks together. The IT mountain is very high, but with calmness and confidence, we will conquer it step by step!

Before conquering the mountain top, which is not an easy task, we need to determine and prepare enough willpower to climb the mountain. First of all, we should not rush but start with the belief and desire that we will definitely overcome it. Avoid being self-conscious about our abilities (“This mountain” is very high, only Bill Gates, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg… can set foot there), about our starting conditions (the entry point is not high…) Don’t worry about those things because it will dampen our fighting spirit, lack of faith and make it easy to give up.

The teacher reaffirmed: The starting point is not a reason for us to be discouraged, what is more important is to be energized by a team of experienced lecturers, equipped with learning skills, and an ecosystem of Dai Nam University with a list of businesses ready to be a place to experience, a place to create jobs for students, always accompanying them to climb the mountain.

IT is changing the world and we are proud to have chosen to study IT.

After 4 years of study, students will begin to reach the peak of information technology after the first year; programming skills after the second year; design and task analysis skills after the third year; project development, an IT bachelor after the fourth year. So, to achieve those goals, what learning skills do students need?

All skills start with students actively participating in the learning process. Students need to ask questions immediately whenever they do not understand something. Ask everything immediately, do not let those questions follow you after graduation. Students also need to practice programming, because the learning philosophy at Dai Nam University is: Visualize all knowledge, before going into abstract definitions; discover and analyze needs, before going into software design and construction.

For example, students can calculate the value of the sin(1) function with an accuracy of up to thousands of digits after the decimal point... In fact, not only the sin or cos function, but students will learn how to calculate the value of all functions. Likewise, students will know how to calculate area or volume, and will be able to give solutions to function equations to find the laws of variation. Students will know how to simulate crowd behavior, simulate randomness in the process of disease transmission to find the laws,... Students will also learn to use available tools to support calculations, statistical analysis, set up artificial intelligence networks, create services on e-commerce platforms, digital currency,... The scope of knowledge will not be limited but will increase gradually according to the development of Information Technology and the needs of the economy.

Although the amount of knowledge is very large, it is formed from the basic knowledge backbone. These are concepts of mathematics, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, system design analysis, parallel computing, etc. So to go far, students need to master basic knowledge and program themselves to check the correctness of the assertions. These are not only assertions from theorems but also from algorithms.

One of the skills that you need to have is teamwork skills. Information technology is a field that requires collective labor and creativity. Along with the cultural characteristics of Vietnamese people, it is to be led to creativity. Therefore, as students of Dai Nam University, you must be willing to learn and share knowledge with each other, and cooperate. You should not carry with you a feeling of inferiority, because nothing is impossible, it is just that you do not know enough to be able to do it. To be able to know the details and nooks and crannies of every problem, you must learn proactively and help each other learn.

After 4 years of studying at Dai Nam University, you will be trained in courage and team spirit to overcome any mountain, no matter how high.
