Memories of the subsidy period: Going back in time, preserving the spirit of Vietnamese Tet

On the morning of January 14, the yard of Dai Nam University was filled with the bustling atmosphere and nostalgic colors of the spring festival with the theme "Memories of the subsidy period". The scene seemed to bring everyone back to the past, recalling the Tet holidays full of rusticity, simplicity and hardship of a historical period. Every corner of the event vividly recreated the image of the old Tet: the subsidy-style stalls, the fragrant smell of green banh chung mixed in the wind, the echoing sound of folk music, along with the performances and the "top" retro fashion show of teachers and students.
The Cake of Love: 14 Years of Love
The highlight of the festival is the “Love Cake” program – a traditional beauty that has been associated with Dai Nam University for the past 14 years. This activity is not only an opportunity to wrap green Chung cakes, but also a way for teachers and students to send love to those in difficult circumstances.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice President of the School Board - emotionally shared : "Tet is a special occasion to remind us of humanity, of the value of sharing. The Tam Banh Nghia Tinh program is not only a beautiful tradition but also an affirmation: the greatest fulfillment does not lie in material things, but in a loving heart."
In each banh chung, there is not only sticky rice, green beans, fatty meat, but also the heart and memories of a difficult time, helping the young generation understand that: True happiness is knowing how to give.
Going back in time, feeling the old Tet, keeping the national soul
The theme “Memories of the Subsidy Period” not only recreates the atmosphere of the old Tet but also serves as a bridge to help the younger generation understand and appreciate traditional cultural values. Through the activities of making Chung cakes and recreating the Tet atmosphere of the subsidy period, students have the opportunity to deeply feel the simplicity and rusticity in the lifestyle of their grandparents and parents. Through that, they learn lessons about appreciating simple things, the spirit of thrift, and knowing how to love and share in life.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nhan – Head of Student Affairs Department, excitedly expressed: “The atmosphere of the festival is wonderful! I am very touched to see students immersing themselves in the activities. This is not only a playground but also a vivid lesson about culture and humanity.”
Vu Thuy Anh – K17 Business Administration, confided: “This is the first time I have participated in such a meaningful Tet festival. It feels like going back in time, living in the memories of the subsidy period that my grandparents and parents used to tell me.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - Head of Soft Skills Training Department, shared: “The Tam Banh Nghia Tinh program teaches students not only how to wrap banh chung but also how to share. I believe that each banh chung given away is a humane message, helping young people to grow up.”
Educational significance of Tet during the subsidy period
The festival not only recreates a difficult historical period but also brings many meaningful lessons to young people. Through the images of Tet in the old subsidy period, students realize that happiness does not lie in material abundance but in solidarity, love and sharing within the family and community.
Memories of difficult times have inspired young people to overcome difficulties, appreciate what they have and live more responsibly. This is also an opportunity for students to look back at themselves, fostering awareness of preserving and promoting national cultural identity in modern times.
Exploding joy, connecting teachers and students
The morning atmosphere became even more exciting with the tug of war competition between teachers. Cheers echoed throughout the school yard, the “unwilling athletes” gave their all, bringing laughter. The performances with strong folk melodies mixed with modern youthfulness also made the festival lively and full of emotions.
The event ended, but its warm echoes still spread in everyone's heart. The festival was not only a time for fun but also an opportunity for teachers and students of Dai Nam University to preserve the spirit of Vietnamese Tet, spread love and foster traditional cultural values, inspiring the younger generation to live more positively and humanely.
