Foreign languages are extremely important in the period of international integration.
Sharing about the importance of foreign languages in university training, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa said: “ It is not by chance that universities require students to have a TOEIC certificate to be eligible to graduate. In the current period of international integration, every young person needs to have a foreign language to avoid being eliminated by society…”
As a recruiter for many years, the Vice President of Dai Nam University said that candidates who do not have an advantage in foreign languages, no matter how good their professional qualifications, are very likely to “lose points”. And of course, when choosing between a candidate who has both professional qualifications and foreign language skills and a candidate who only has professional qualifications, the recruiter will favor the number 1 candidate.
“Young people who do not know a foreign language will encounter many difficulties in work and life. Let me give you a simple example: if you travel abroad but do not know English, you will not be able to read and understand the instructions on the street, in the supermarket and will not be able to communicate with the locals; if your partner or boss sends you an email in English but you do not have the ability to read and understand English, you will not know what information you are receiving. In order not to be “out of place” or eliminated, there is no other way but to “know how to swim” to “float on your own”, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa shared.

With more than a decade of accompanying Dai Nam University, personally welcoming 12 batches of students to enroll and seeing off 8 batches of students to graduate, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa understands better than anyone what her students need to be equipped with to have the best preparation for life.
“Many students confided to me that the English learning method at university is very different from high school, they get “heat shock” and it takes a lot of time to get used to, catch up with and master the learning method. We do not want this to happen again with the next generation of students. This is the reason why the school decided to choose “English learning method at university” as the training topic for the civic week for new students of grade 12…”, said Ms. Cao Thi Hoa.

It is known that this is an annual training activity organized by Dai Nam University at the beginning of the course to help new students see the difference between learning English at university and high school, equipping them with skills and effective methods of learning English at university right from the first days of school. Nearly 1,300 new students of K12 were shared by lecturers of the English Language Department about the importance of learning foreign languages and effective methods of learning English at university.
Sharing about this issue, MSc. Pham Thi Oanh, Faculty of English Language, Dai Nam University said: “ For a long time, English has become an invisible fear for students due to incorrect teaching methods. Instead of achieving the goal of mastering listening - speaking - reading - writing skills, schools focus too much on grammar. Many students learn English with a coping mindset, studying only to pass the exam, so the effectiveness is very limited…”
According to Ms. Pham Thi Oanh, to learn English effectively, students need to love and be interested in this subject. In particular, understanding and mastering the learning method is very important. “ You can learn English anywhere, anytime; learn with many different methods. You can learn online with English learning software, participate in forums, clubs or self-study through entertaining games. If you have the will to learn and the determination to learn, you will definitely master the method very quickly…” Ms. Oanh shared.
