“Law Competition 2022” – Demonstrating the mettle of future lawyers

“Law Faculty Debate 2022” is a competition organized by the Law Faculty Union, Law Faculty Club - under the Faculty of Law, Dai Nam University. The competition is an academic playground for young people who share a passion for debate and legal issues; a place for students to interact, exchange, express their voices, thinking, stance, arguments, speaking and debating skills; at the same time, improve their knowledge of law.

The final round of "Law Faculty Competition 2022" was attended by the Board of Directors, officers, lecturers, staff and students of the Faculty of Law, Dai Nam University and parents.

The jury includes: Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Loi - Assistant to the President of the University Council, Science Manager, Head of the jury; Dr. Do Thi Minh Thu - Professional advisor of the Faculty of Law, Deputy Head of the jury; Lawyer Nguyen Ngoc Lan - Deputy Head of the jury; Mr. Bui Duc Anh - Deputy Secretary of the University Youth Union, member of the jury; MSc. Le Hong Hanh - lecturer of Hanoi University, member of the jury.

Speaking at the program, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Loi shared: “I am very happy that “Law Competition 2022” received enthusiastic participation from students not majoring in Law. The competition is an academic playground - practicing skills that the Faculty of Law is aiming for, meeting the requirements of law practice, training students not only in terms of knowledge and skills but also in professional ethics”.

After the challenging preliminary round, the 12 best contestants officially appeared and entered the final round of the first season of “Law Competition”. Here, the contestants will be randomly drawn to divide into 4 teams and paired up to compete with each other. Accordingly, Team 1 (Support) “confronts” Team 3 (Oppose) on the topic “Students and premarital cohabitation”; Team 2 (Support) debates with Team 4 (Oppose) on the topic “Humane euthanasia”.

12 excellent candidates from the faculties of Dai Nam University entered the final round of "Law Faculty Competition 2022".

Each team will have a maximum of 5 arguments to present. After the members of the supporting team have expressed their opinions, the opposing team will have a maximum of 5 minutes to rebut and vice versa. After the presentation, each team will have 5 minutes to summarize the overall opinion of the whole team.

Faced with two "hot" topics, the teams demonstrated quick and sharp arguments, the ability to think critically and critically, demonstrating the solid knowledge and confidence of DNU students.

Team 3 made many sharp arguments against students living together before marriage.

Team 2 presented their views in favor of euthanasia.

Team 4 representatives argued against euthanasia.

In the end, the First Prize went to Team 2 - Supporting Euthanasia; Second Prize went to Team 3 - Opposing Premarital Cohabitation; Third Prize went to Team 1 - Supporting Premarital Cohabitation; and the Promising Prize went to Team 4 - Opposing Premarital Cohabitation.

In addition, the Jury also selected 05 excellent debaters to award 05 Impressive Prizes: Nhu Trang Nga - LKT 1501; Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh - LKT 1502; Chu Ly Hung - TT 1405; Bui Thi Thanh Huyen - LKT 1401 and Nguyen Anh Khanh - LKT 1502.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Loi and Lawyer Nguyen Ngoc Lan awarded the First Prize to Team 3 - Supporting euthanasia.

Mr. Bui Duc Anh awarded prizes to the 5 best debaters.

Lawyer Nguyen Ngoc Lan shared: “The contestants have demonstrated the qualities of future lawyers when they presented convincing arguments and evidence to defend their views. Surely they have spent a lot of time and effort to research and thoroughly understand the topic given by the Organizing Committee…”

Lawyer Nguyen Ngoc Lan highly appreciates the thinking and reasoning ability of Dai Nam University students.

Once the champion of the debate competition organized by Hanoi Law University, MSc. Le Hong Hanh expressed: “The Law Faculty debate is a useful academic playground to train knowledge and professional skills for students. We need to encourage and develop more competitions like this”.

Sharing after the competition, contestant Chu Ly Hung - Chinese class 14-05 said: "I see this competition as a miniature Teen school but with the color of Law through attractive topics throughout the preliminary round to the final round. Although my team did not win the championship, we won ourselves, confidently debated, dared to express ourselves in front of the students and the expert jury..."

Contestant Chu Ly Hung left many impressions with his eloquent and strong debate.

“As a foreign student, learning about law is very interesting for me. Thank you to the competition for giving me interesting experiences and great teammates,” contestant Pham Viet Tung - Pharmacy class 16-02 shared.

The first season of the Law Faculty Competition has officially ended with exciting and intense competitions. The Law Faculty hopes that the competition will continue to receive the support of many students in the coming seasons.
