On the morning of July 14, 2016, Pung Banh Commune Youth Union and Dai Nam University Youth Union organized the launching ceremony of the 2016 summer volunteer campaign, starting a meaningful Green Summer with the people of Pung Banh Commune, Sop Cop District, Son La Province.
Attending the launching ceremony, on the side of the District Youth Union, there were comrade Nguyen Van Thang - Deputy Secretary of the Sop Cop District Youth Union; comrade Dinh Van Bang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the commune; comrade Vi Van Nhat - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee; comrade Tong Van Quoc - Secretary of the Commune Youth Union and 60 youth union members of Pung Banh Commune. On the side of the Dai Nam University Youth Union, there were comrade Pham Hong Duc - Deputy Secretary of the School Youth Union; comrade Vu Dang Tuan Anh - Member of the School Youth Union Executive Committee; comrade Le Viet Hoang - Captain of the SVTN Team and 20 union members.

“Green Summer” is a volunteer activity that takes place regularly during the summer vacation of university students in general and Dai Nam University students in particular. Every year, Dai Nam Student Volunteer Team often chooses mountainous and disadvantaged provinces to carry out the “green summer” campaign. And this year, the 2016 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign of Dai Nam University Youth Union Executive Committee chose Pung Banh Commune, Sop Cop District, Son La Province to carry out the campaign. Pung Banh Commune is a highland commune, located on the border. The commune has an area of 15,690 hectares, divided into 16 villages. The population is mainly Thai (97%) and Mong (3%) with 8,776 people.

The 2016 summer volunteer campaign in Pung Banh Commune will include dredging nearly 4km of canals; planting forests; clearing land at kindergartens, primary schools, and high schools; repairing inter-village roads, repairing bridges over streams; renovating and creating environmental landscapes at martyrs' cemeteries... Organizing gift giving to families with preferential policies, giving bicycles to students with especially difficult circumstances; organizing mobile children's film screenings in villages in the commune.
On behalf of the Executive Committee of Dai Nam University Youth Union, comrade Pham Hong Duc - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union Central Committee spoke at the launching ceremony: “ The summer volunteer movement is a regular activity of the youth of the whole country, for the community life, for the rich and beautiful homeland. Every year, Dai Nam University students participate in the Green Summer campaign in the mountainous areas with the desire to bring their youth to help the people here. During the short two weeks in Pung Banh commune, Dai Nam University students will enthusiastically help the people with work, bring the children here meaningful gifts and a memorable summer with their seniors.”

At the launching ceremony, comrade Dinh Van Bang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; comrade Vi Van Nhat - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee placed great trust in the volunteer spirit of the youth. With the spirit of pioneering, wherever there is difficulty, there will be young people, creating a volunteer season that leaves a deep impression on the people.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, Pung Banh Commune Youth Union members and Dai Nam students helped 2 families of war invalids and sick soldiers in Ban Lun build fences and pour concrete in their yards.

The “Green Summer” volunteer campaign is a meaningful community activity with high educational value for students. This is not only an opportunity for students to create special summer memories with friends, but “Green Summer” is also a place for students to experience life away from their parents, away from the city, to share and help others, helping youth union members to contribute and mature, contributing to the formation of a generation of young people with compassion, courage, intelligence, and social skills, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
