K18 freshmen and the journey of "disillusionment" at Dai Nam University

Entering the university, the new K18 students brought with them dreams of a free life, a “cool” style like in youth movies. However, after only the first semester, they were “disillusioned” with unexpected truths.
Below are stories of "tearful journeys" that make K18 more mature every day.
1. Homeroom teachers, academic advisors – 007 agents
I thought university was a “free zone”, but it turns out that at Dai Nam, freedom is defined by the 24/7 surveillance of 007 agents - homeroom teachers, academic advisors... and even deans and vice deans. Timetables must be strict, greetings must be clear, learning attitude must be serious... Not to mention the academic advisors are “super clingy”.
Ho Yen Vy - International Business K18 shared: “I thought being away from home meant I could fly around freely, but unexpectedly, the spies kept reporting to the parents. They said they saw that they had a girlfriend; they had been a bit negligent lately; exams were coming up… The parents remembered which day and which subject their child took the exam more than the client…”
2. Full-time introvert but unexpectedly becomes the center of attention at events
Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Anh - Medical K18 confided: “I was very shy in high school, but after just over a month at Dai Nam, I confidently represented the new students, speaking in front of 15,000 spectators at the Opening Ceremony and the grand concert welcoming new students of K18. A change that even I myself felt surprised by…”
Under the "strong" encouragement of the "supervisors" who are teachers, from club activities to events with thousands of people, Dai Nam students gradually learn to be confident and express themselves.
3. “Military at school” – from “girly girls” suddenly become brave “warriors”
Studying military right at school? Sounds "cool", but in reality it's "miserable". Teachers at Dai Nam train students in discipline and order in the style of "how steel is tempered". The new students of K18 have gone through unforgettable "training" days.
"In the early days, I was really in crisis because I had to wake up early and follow the strict study and living schedule of a soldier. It felt like I was living in an action movie! But then, I realized that I had learned a lot, from time management, teamwork skills, perseverance and discipline. In particular, the military training period made me love Vietnam more and feel that I need to live more responsibly. Now, I can confidently say that I have completely 'changed'!" - Anh Dung Automotive Engineering Technology K18 confided.
Ngoc Minh shared: "The military course was like a steel furnace. I went from being a skinny girl who thought I couldn't even carry a gun, but in the end, I could stay out in the sun for hours doing rolling and crawling exercises without getting tired."
Many parents wrote to the school asking for the military semester to last 2 months instead of just 28 days because of the positive changes that have gone beyond the expectations of the young people after the semester.
“After the military training, I was surprised when my child woke up on time and folded his bed neatly without any reminders. Honestly, I just wish this program lasted 2 months instead of 28 days!” – one parent shared.
Not only training in discipline, military training also helps young people realize the value of solidarity, team spirit and responsibility to the community.
“After just one month, I saw my child grow up significantly. From being lazy and disobedient, he now knows how to share and help his parents with housework. I really thank the school for this program,” said another parent.
5. Soft skills camp: “Survive” to grow up
“Soft skills training camp” is the ultimate challenge that helps K18 new students realize their limits and know how to overcome them.
The “torturous” schedule from early morning to late at night makes many students think they have… entered the wrong military camp. But after all, the skills of teamwork, emotional management and situation handling have been systematically trained. This is also the only subject that Dai Nam University students voluntarily “re-study” and “re-take” many times.
"Disillusionment" to grow up
The first “disillusions” at Dai Nam University not only brought laughter but also valuable lessons, helping new students grow up every day. From the strictness in studying, the “unwilling” but memorable experiences, to the dedication of teachers, all have created a proud journey for K18.
And when they look back, they will surely realize: It was those shocks that helped them mature and prepare them to step out into the world!
