These are the heartfelt lines in a letter to her mother from new student Nguyen Hoai Thuong – class monitor of Pharmacy class 13-02, Dai Nam University. We would like to quote the original letter to her mother from female student Nguyen Hoai Thuong, believing that it is also the heart of thousands of new students of class 13 DNU.

Nguyen Hoai Thuong - class monitor of Pharmacy class 13-02, Dai Nam University

My dear mother!

As I write these words to you, Mom, I am officially holding my student card from Dai Nam University – the university I have always dreamed of. Although I am still confused and there are many challenges ahead, I believe that I have made the right choice and am gradually reaching my dream of becoming a Pharmacist…

So fast, it has been more than a month since my child started school and started getting used to the new environment. The initial awkwardness is passing, I have gradually adapted to the new learning environment and independent life away from home. From a clumsy child, only knowing how to eat and study, always having my parents worry and remind me about everything, now I have become more independent. I have gradually gotten used to waking up early every morning to go to school, making my own breakfast, going to the market, cooking, doing laundry, cleaning the room... However, I still cannot get used to the feeling of missing home, missing my parents and siblings.

Mom! I remember, the day I received the university admission notice, you were very happy. The smile and tears of happiness rolling down your thin, sunburned face, I can never forget. And I also know, behind that joy and happiness were many worries because our family was not well off.

To raise us to be adults and study like our peers, our parents had to work very hard and make many sacrifices. That is why “more than once” I wanted to give up my dream. I did not want my parents to work harder because of me and I wanted to give up the opportunity to study at university to my two younger siblings. However, every time I thought of giving up, it was my mother who made it impossible for me to give up. She told me: “You study not only for your future but also for your parents; in the past, because of poverty, your parents did not have the conditions to study, so they had to work hard all their lives. Your parents did not want you to follow that difficult path; studying is better than…” Listening to my mother, I was determined to pursue a 5-year university degree (Pharmacy).

There are many things I want to tell you about my new life and learning environment. Those are the first days of university. University is mainly about self-study, self-researching materials, and teachers are the ones who help us orient and guide us to understand the lessons better.

Those are my new teachers. I used to think that university lecturers would never be as friendly and approachable as high school teachers. But I was wrong, Mom. The teachers surprised me because they were all friendly, enthusiastic, and always cared about and listened to the students. Not only did they teach us knowledge with great passion, but they were also always willing to share and help us with the most sensitive things in life. If there was any problem, we could call or text our teachers and immediately receive answers and the right advice.

Those are my new friends. They come from many different regions, from Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An... there are even friends from Binh Dinh, Quy Nhon who come to study. Even though we have only met and become acquainted for more than a month, I feel like we have known each other for a long time, Mom! We study together, share the joys and sorrows, and confusion in life. My school is going to organize a Gala to welcome new students of K13, so after school hours, we will gather together to practice performing arts. Although it is a bit tiring, it is very fun and meaningful, Mom! And what makes me and my friends more excited is that in the upcoming Gala to welcome new students of K13, there will be a famous singer performing. I am eagerly waiting for this event.

At Dai Nam University, there are many things that are different from my imagination and thoughts, which surprised me, Mom. The classrooms are spacious, comfortable, and cool with air conditioning; the library is as beautiful as a hotel, inspiring learning; the Pharmacy practice area, the medicinal herb garden are right in the school... even the toilets are very clean.

Mom! It turns out that living independently away from home is not as easy as I thought. Besides having to do everything myself, there are many problems that confuse me, Mom. Yesterday, in my art group, a friend had a birthday. She invited me to attend, I really wanted to go to congratulate her but then hesitated, not knowing whether I should go or not and what gift I should give her? Or like after school, my friends often invite each other to drink milk tea, go to the student market to buy clothes, shoes, go to the lake to eat Trang Tien ice cream... I really like it, but I think going will be expensive and will waste my living expenses. So I had to reluctantly decline.

Today I went to the library and talked with some seniors. The “seniors” told me that studying at university is not as easy and easy as many people say, Mom. Studying at university requires real determination and effort to pursue it to the end. Especially the Pharmacy major that I am studying, it is very heavy and very difficult! However, the seniors also said that in every step of the student, there are always teachers accompanying and helping. Those shares make me believe that I made the right decision when choosing Dai Nam University as the place to study and fulfill my dream. I will try my best to pursue the path that I have chosen.

Parents and siblings at home, please rest assured, your daughter is developing in a new environment, exposed to and exposed to new things to grow up every hour, mature every day and become mature in each stage of life..."

My daughter!

Love
