Hundreds of Dai Nam University students took to the streets to spread the message of "say no" to plastic bags.

Every year, the world releases 500 billion plastic bags and more than 300 million tons of plastic waste into the environment. If they were connected together, plastic bags could wrap around the Earth 4,200 times. On average, the world consumes 1 million plastic bottles every minute. More than 9.1 billion tons of plastic waste are accumulating on Earth. Faced with this situation, Dai Nam University continues to implement the environmental communication program - Say no to plastic bags. On the morning of May 11, hundreds of students of the school took to the streets with hand-drawn posters calling on the community to join hands to say no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products.

Sharing about the program, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Principal, Head of the Movement Department, Dai Nam University said: “The above statistics may not make many people startled or scared, because everyone thinks it “leaves them out”. However, plastic waste and nylon bags are the leading factors causing environmental pollution, affecting human life and the ecosystem every day and every hour. Everyone needs to be responsible in the fight against white pollution and save their own lives…”

On the morning of May 11, in rainy and windy weather conditions, hundreds of cadres, lecturers and students of Dai Nam University took part at traffic lights, supermarkets and shopping centers on the road from Nga Tu So (Thanh Xuan) - Phu Lam (Ha Dong) to spread the message of saying no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products.
With impressive slogans: “One-time plastic bags – thousands of pounds of waste”, “Say no to plastic bags”, “Using plastic bags is not stylish”, “Plastic is convenient for a minute - harmful to the Earth for a hundred years”, “Are environmentally friendly paper cups more convenient”, “No plastic bags are okay”, “Living white waste is lifeless”, “Going to the market with a basket is extremely convenient”, “Plastic bags today - death tomorrow”… , the launching ceremony of Dai Nam University teachers and students was a great success, leaving a deep impression in the community, contributing to changing people's awareness.

Similarly, Nguyen Thi Anh - a student of the Faculty of Tourism, Dai Nam University, could not hide her pride when participating in this meaningful propaganda activity. " Being able to draw posters by hand and directly take to the streets to propagate; receiving sympathetic looks, words of encouragement and support from passersby, we feel very happy to have contributed a small part to protecting the environment..." Anh confided.

Sharing with us, Tran Quang Linh - a first-year student of the Faculty of Information Technology, Dai Nam University said: "People are abusing and relying too much on plastic bags and single-use plastic products, forgetting the terrible consequences they bring to health and the living environment. I feel that I need to have a responsibility with the community to say no to plastic and plastic waste..."

At the launch, many people asked for posters from Dai Nam University teachers and students to spread the message of “saying no” to plastic bags to the community. Ms. Tran Phuong Anh – 36 years old, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi shared: “ Propaganda activities with real people and real events like this are very useful. It helps people understand and be more aware of the harmful effects of plastic waste. My family has been trying to minimize the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items in all activities…”

It is known that from May 12 to May 19, lecture halls, canteens, dormitories, schoolyards and living areas of staff, lecturers and students of Dai Nam University will strictly implement the maximum restriction of the use of plastic bags, replacing plastic bags with paper bags or environmentally friendly cloth bags; not using plastic straws, instead using bamboo straws, stainless steel straws; staff, lecturers and students actively bring personal water bottles to use instead of using disposable bottles; bring bowls, chopsticks, food containers to replace foam boxes, plastic bags and disposable plastic food containers. At the same time, staff, lecturers and students in the whole school will proactively classify reusable waste into waste sorting bins...
“Say no” to plastic bags and single-use plastic products is the consistent message of Dai Nam University's environmental communication program.
