During the time when students and trainees are off school to avoid the Covid-19 epidemic, Dai Nam University has actively implemented an online training plan in all 14 majors. As a faculty with the advantage of mastering and applying IT in online training, the Faculty of Information Technology of Dai Nam University is considered one of the leading faculties in this training work.

Golden opportunity to develop online training

Ms. Pham Thi To Nga - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Information Technology reported on the implementation results of online training of the Faculty of Information Technology.
In response to opinions that online teaching and learning during the epidemic season is only a temporary solution to help students maintain their studies so as not to forget their knowledge, Ms. Pham Thi To Nga - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, Dai Nam University affirmed that this is a "golden" opportunity to promote and develop online training.

Nothing is impossible when we have a good infrastructure system, high-quality human resources, solidarity, determination and passion for the profession,” Ms. Pham Thi To Nga emphasized.

According to Ms. Nga, in the era of the 4.0 technology revolution, when the whole world is "shrinking" into a computer, smart phone with internet connection; social networks and online learning software are developing rapidly, connecting people and all things regardless of space and time like today, online learning is an inevitable development trend of education. In fact, the e-learning model has developed very strongly in European and North American countries. In Asia and Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, this model is also developing in a very bright direction.

The Faculty of Information Technology is one of the leading faculties in mastering and applying IT in training.

“Currently, E-learning is increasingly popular because of its flexibility and convenience. It helps solve many difficult problems when teachers and learners can connect with each other anywhere, anytime. This is an advantage that traditional educational methods do not have. In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic that continues to develop unpredictably worldwide, this is an opportunity for Vietnamese education to promote and develop the E-learning training model...” Ms. Pham Thi To Nga shared.

Ms. Nga further analyzed that E-learning is a modern training method based on IT and communication platforms. With the rapid and strong development of technology along with a team of highly qualified lecturers, good IT skills, enthusiasm and good facilities (computer rooms, modern labs, high-speed internet, modern teaching and learning support tools... and the popularity of smartphones), Dai Nam University is fully qualified to promote online training in all majors.

Faculty of Information Technology actively masters and applies information technology in online training

Following the direction of the Board of Directors and the Board of Management, the Faculty of Information Technology has actively and proactively implemented online training activities during the time students were off school due to the Covid-19 epidemic in all subjects of the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year.

One of the online teaching and learning channels being effectively applied by the Faculty of Information Technology, Dai Nam University.

To make online learning most effective, the Faculty of Information Technology has developed a specific timetable and study program for each subject that the faculty is responsible for. Every week, lecturers must send detailed reports to the faculty and hold evaluation and experience-sharing meetings at the faculty, after which the faculty will send the report to the Board of Directors.

Online learning channels such as: the school's E-Learning training system, Goocus online training system, social networks (facebook, zalo, viber, youtube), gmail, google classroom, zoom software... are fully utilized by the Faculty of Information Technology during this time. Lecturers actively update documents, textbooks, lectures, exercises in the forms of word, excel, video, audio, images on the system for students to access, look up, and do exercises under the remote guidance of lecturers.

“Through learning channels, students will receive lessons, exercises and interact online with lecturers. Lecturers respond regularly via the application, answering students’ questions and concerns, helping the online learning process take place effectively…” Ms. Nga said.

Mr. Le Ngoc An - lecturer of the Faculty of Information Technology shared: “Before implementing online teaching and learning, the subject groups held meetings, discussed and balanced the appropriate amount of knowledge, avoiding overload and causing difficulties for students in online learning. After students return to school, lecturers will consolidate knowledge, helping them grasp and achieve effectiveness. This is also a way to help students practice self-study, self-research, and online learning skills - an important skill for 21st century citizens in the era of the 4.0 technology revolution".

Similarly, Mr. Tiep - lecturer of the Faculty of Information Technology added that to ensure knowledge for students, he prepared online teaching materials and applied the teaching method in the form of a flipped classroom. Subject groups were created and that was the place for teachers and students to interact and exchange.

To improve the effectiveness of online learning, the Faculty of Information Technology has used the method of student interaction statistics; used class officers as teaching assistants in interaction statistics; regularly assigned small exercises and required students to write them down on paper, take photos or record videos and send them back to the group within the specified time; created opinion polls among students about the strengths, weaknesses, and effectiveness of learning methods; adjusted teaching time accordingly...

Lecturers assign assignments and students submit them directly on the group.

After more than 3 weeks of implementation, the initial survey results show that students are very excited about this form of learning because they can be proactive in terms of space and time. Lecturers are involved in the testing process, completing the School's online teaching system - a new trend in the world to erase the distance of space and time in education...
