Faculty of Pharmacy won first prize in the 2nd English Speaking Contest: English key to success

English is currently a global language, playing an important role in the trend of international integration and is the key to success. Realizing its importance, Dai Nam University has focused on the English training program as well as teaching methods for students. To help students better understand the importance of English in study and work, and at the same time help students improve their communication and presentation skills in English. The Faculty of Foreign Languages in conjunction with the Foreign Language Club organized the 2nd "English Speaking Contest" in 2015 for non-major students of the whole school.
This year’s competition with the theme “ English key to success” attracted the participation of many students from all faculties in the school. A total of 38 students registered to participate. All 38 students had to go through two preliminary rounds before entering the Final Round.
Round 1: Preliminary (Recording) starts from October 1, 2015 to October 15, 2015
- In round 1, the Foreign Language Club introduces a number of topics to the contestants. Each contestant will present on the chosen topic for 5 to 7 minutes and record it to send to the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee will select the 15 best presentations for the semi-finals.
Round 2: Semi-final (Oral presentation)
- Candidates present their speech to the judges within 5 minutes. In round 2, the 10 best candidates will be selected to enter the final round.
After two preliminary rounds, with very impressive performances from the contestants, the 10 best candidates entered the Final round.
On the afternoon of December 8, 2015, the final round of the 2nd “English Eloquence” contest took place at Phu Lam Hall with the participation of teachers in the School Board of Directors, lecturers from the Faculties and many students cheering for the contestants. The jury of the contest included: Dr. Dang Ngoc Huong – Head of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; MSc. Pham Thi Oanh – Deputy Head of the Faculty; MSc. Pham Thanh Viet and MSc. Nguyen Quynh Anh – Lecturers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
The 10 finalists were mainly first and second year students from the following faculties: Finance and Banking, Medicine and Pharmacy, Public Relations and Communications, Accounting, Economic Law, English and Business Administration. In round 3: the Final round, the 10 contestants gave a 5-minute speech. The speech had to follow the main theme of the competition.
10 contestants introduced themselves to the audience, showing confidence before entering the competition.
Going through two preliminary rounds with the contestants, witnessing their efforts, foreign language skills and confidence after each round, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Lecturer of the Foreign Languages Department shared: " Most of the students participating in the contest are non-majors, but they are very enthusiastic and serious when entering the contest. Going through the preliminary rounds with them, I realized their love and awareness of the role of English."
After 3 hours of hard work, all 10 contestants were highly appreciated by the judges for their English speaking ability. With an impressive speech, confident presentation, especially standard English pronunciation, Truong Minh Thao, class 08-01 Pharmacy, excellently won the first prize of the 2nd "English Speaking" contest. The two second prizes went to two male contestants: Ngo Duc Phuong - class QHCC 06-01 and Vu Nhat Tan - QTKD 07-01

Truong Minh Thao, class Pharmacy 08-01 with her excellent speech won first prize in the contest.
In joy, Minh Thao shared: “ I thank the School, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Foreign Language Club very much. Thank you to the School for organizing such a useful competition for us. Myself and my fellow students will try to study and improve our knowledge to further improve our foreign language skills. Participating in the competition, I realized that my students speak English very well. Everyone is confident in performing well in their speeches.”

Coming to the 2nd English Speaking Contest, students not only had the opportunity to exchange and learn experiences to improve their foreign language skills, but through the competitions, students also showed their love and passion for English. Through the contest, Dai Nam students continued to affirm to other universities about the quality of training, especially the foreign language proficiency of Dai Nam University students is not inferior to any other school.
