Implementing the policy of concentrating all resources to accelerate the improvement of training quality, making Dai Nam University become "the first training address trusted by learners", recently, Dr. Le Dac Son - Chairman of the University Council had a meeting to talk with all staff, lecturers and employees about the development strategy and action policies in the new period of the school.

03 core points in the development strategy of Dai Nam University

Dr. Le Dac Son directly shared about the development strategy and policies and actions of Dai Nam University in the new period.

As the head of the school and with many years of experience in business management and operation, Dr. Le Dac Son affirmed: The development strategy of Dai Nam University is the competitive advantage of the school, helping to establish the position in the education system that the school wants to achieve, and at the same time helping to determine the different ways the school needs to do to achieve the desired position. In addition to determining the right development strategy, the head of the organization must be responsible for publicizing the development strategy to each cadre, lecturer, and employee so that all personnel understand and unanimously implement it.

This is an annual activity to help each staff member, lecturer and employee understand the development strategy as well as the policies and practical actions of the school.

Since its inception, Dai Nam University has set out a development strategy by clearly defining its mission, vision, educational philosophy, core values and long-term and short-term goals in each development period.

Accordingly, the 3 key points in Dai Nam's development strategy in the new period are: 1, Competitive advantage. 2, Determining position in the market. 3, Creating difference. In which, Dr. Le Dac Son especially emphasized the difference.

“To differentiate ourselves from other universities, we have to be ahead.”

“We have to create a difference that other universities do not have and if they want to imitate us, it will take them 5-10 years to follow,” Dr. Le Dac Son emphasized.

A series of consistent decisions that shape the long-term future

To implement the development strategy, Dai Nam has made a series of consistent decisions to orient the long-term future, creating outstanding results and qualitative breakthroughs in training.

First, about defining the mission: Dai Nam University is a university that provides training services according to social needs; graduates must have a good life and become good citizens.

Explaining why the goal is for graduates to have a good life and become good citizens, Dr. Le Dac Son explained: “ Graduates who have a good life mean having a job that matches their qualifications and abilities, and a good income to support themselves and their families. Good citizens are those who have good moral qualities, live responsibly towards their work, family, friends, and work according to the law, and have influence on the country and the world. Dai Nam University will focus all resources to fulfill that mission…

Second, about defining the vision. Dr. Le Dac Son affirmed that this is a difficult task for every organization; it is an extremely important task for the head of the school.

Determining the vision is to answer the question: What will Dai Nam University be like in 10, 20, 30 years and beyond? When will Dai Nam University become the first address chosen by learners?

“Graduates must have a good life and become good citizens” is the mission of Dai Nam University.

With its vision, Dai Nam takes the health sector including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing as the core training axis. In addition, it focuses on developing and internationalizing key sectors with high social demand, such as: Information Technology, Business Administration and languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese). The goal is that by 2025, Dai Nam University will become a training address that is highly trusted by society for its training quality of "learning closely linked to real life"; achieving important achievements in research and technology transfer in the field of science to protect and care for community health.

“We still have 5 years to achieve this short-term goal. However, we need to clearly define what high credibility is, and what criteria to use to evaluate it? For example, high social credibility can be quantified by the number of candidates applying to the school, the rate of rejected applications; training quality can be assessed by input quality, output quality standards, the rate of students having jobs after graduation, research works, and inventions transferred by teachers and students...; technology transfer can be positioned by the quality and quantity of scientific research products produced into goods, bearing the Dai Nam University brand name”, Dr. Le Dac Son analyzed.

Third, about core values. “Accumulating social trust” is the core value that Dai Nam University has built over the past 14 years. Trust is built on the basis of integrity, quality and efficiency.

Fourth, about educational philosophy. “ Learning to change ” is the educational philosophy of Dai Nam University. The Chairman of the University Council affirmed that without learning, there can be no change; without learning, even if you travel thousands of miles, you are just a postman. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously learn to change, continuously update knowledge to change.

Policies that put strategy into action

This shows that even a very small mistake can harm the honor and reputation of an organization. And at Dai Nam, all harmful things that affect the honor of the school are eliminated.

With the viewpoint that "teachers must be good for students to be good ", Dai Nam University has built a policy to attract and recruit good lecturers and managers; a policy to evaluate lecturers linked to income regimes; a policy to evaluate managers linked to income regimes; a policy to finance scientific research for lecturers; a policy to foster and train lecturers and staff; a salary and bonus policy... All aim to train students to meet output standards according to competency standards including: Knowledge - Skills - Attitude.

Strategic principles of Dai Nam University in the new period

To implement the development strategy, Dai Nam has identified 05 strategic principles. Principle 1, identify the student group (customer), the learning needs of this student group (customer) and the tuition fees offered by the school. Principle 2, create value-added chains for students including foreign languages, soft skills, life culture, and careers. Principle 3, abandon ineffective majors to focus on core majors, including: Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Information Technology, Business Administration - Communication and language majors. Principle 4, connect the value chain of training majors with business activities in the domestic and international markets (business chains, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, etc.). Principle 5, the strategy must be continuous and clearly defined after 3 to 5 years for everyone to understand.

Strategy execution drivers

Build a core of ambitious people who love challenges to demonstrate their values, are rewarded with salary and are honored.

Managers at all levels (Board of Directors, Faculty, Institute, Center) must be the ones who directly motivate their subordinates. Each subordinate must demonstrate his or her own value to ensure the interests of the school and himself or herself.

Each cadre, lecturer and staff of Dai Nam must demonstrate their own values to ensure the interests of the school and themselves.

Along with motivating yourself, don't reduce the motivation of others (cliques, jealousy, badmouthing positive people...), especially managers at all levels from the Board of Directors down.

Build and regularly adjust reward and reinforcement systems to support the strategy according to five principles:

1, The reward plan must apply to everyone. The reward must account for a relatively large portion of the total income (basic salary to live - large bonus to get rich).

2, Evaluation criteria must reflect the results that individual efforts can impact.

3, Rewards must be closely linked to the goals set out in the strategy.

4, The reward system must be implemented carefully, meticulously and without bias.

5. Transforming culture to execute successful strategy (Easy to say, hard to do). “A good culture is everything that has to be done, changed to get the results you want.”

The Chairman of the Board of Directors hopes that all members understand this development strategy to always have consensus in work, gradually realizing the goal: "Dai Nam University is the first address chosen by learners".
