On November 10th, 2022, Dai Nam University had a meeting with the delegation of the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The meeting honorably welcomed the presence of representatives of the University of Minnesota Duluth, namely Dr. Amy B. Hietapelto - Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Karl Markgraf - Director, International Programs & Services and Dr. Neil Wilmot, Department Head and Associate Professor of Economics.

On the side of Dai Nam University, there were the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hong - President of Dai Nam University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Lien - Vice President, Dr. Tran Luong Thanh - Director of International Office together with leaders of some units. 

The cooperation between DNU and UMD is a strategic cooperative relationship that helps two universities connect in many fields, connect students with reputable institution in the U.S and enhance the reputation of joint training programs of DNU.
The University of Minnesota Duluth, or UMD was established in 1895. Over a 127-year timeframe, UDM now ranks #33 among Midwest Regional Universities and #6 in Top Public Schools thanks to its well-known training quality. It spans a total area of 100 hectares for the school complex with more than 50 buildings, offering up to 566 teaching faculty (including under-graduate programs in 87 majors & 77 minors, graduate programs in 24 fields & 13 minors, two all-university PhD programs and Twin Cities-based PhD programs) in research universities such as: Labovitz School of Business & Economics (LSBE); Labovitz School of Science & Engineering (LSSE); College of Education and Human Service Professions (CEHSP); The Graduate School and small liberal arts college such as College of Arts, Humanities $ Social Sciences (CLA). It is reported that 19% are people of color and 4% are international among the faculty.

In 2015, UMD created International Programs & Services office, providing high-quality international programs and support services to the university community to promote campus internationalization initiatives and global engagement. In 2021, International Programs & Services office attracted 172 International students from 36 countries, mainly the Chinese to study here. Up to now, UMD has successfully established Domestic partnerships with 14 universities and International partnerships with 23 universities from 8 countries, including 2 universities of Vietnam are FTU & VNU. International students graduated from UMD could go on to Masters and PhD programs at prestigious universities such as: Yale, Cornell, Northwestern, Boston, ....

International Programs & Services (IPS) supports well over 200 students studying abroad annually. Since 2014, IPS has supported more than 1,900 students of all colleges from 29 countries to study abroad. In the period time from 2018-2020, IPS awarded over $170K in scholarships to UMD students studying abroad and built more than 1500 student connections through fairs, meetings and events as well.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hong - President of Dai Nam University sent sincere thanks to the distinguished guests from the University of Minnesota Duluth for spending time to visit and work with Dai Nam University. In recognition of the cooperation between DNU and UMD, he said that Dai Nam University has always been the pioneer in building and developing cooperative relations with the U.S. He appreciated the achievements of University of Minnesota Duluth in quality education and expressed his expectation that the cooperation between two sides would grow more extensive and reap much success in the future.

Dr. Tran Luong Thanh discussed the whole project to connect Dai Nam University students with University of Minnesota Duluth. He raised a proposal for a joint 2 & 2 program between DNU and UMD, preferably with a focus on Business Administration, Cultural Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Leadership; an English teaching program where UMD TESOL students can do internship in English teaching to Dai Nam University students; exchange programs for students and university staff, summer programs and cultural activities; and joint hosting of international workshop and working on journal publication between UMD and DNU, to be extended to not just the two universities but also other U.S universities and Vietnamese universities, such as Vietnam National University and Foreign Trade University. He believed that this project would enhance practicality in teaching content, strengthen English language and create employment opportunities after graduation for DNU students in particular and for Vietnamese students in general.
