To make Dai Nam University a historical university today, since June 2005, Dr. Le Dac Son (then General Director of VPBank) and 12 scientists started to build a project to establish it under the auspices of the Vietnam Construction Association.
After 2 years of preparing the conditions to be granted an operating license by the Prime Minister, the founders of Dai Nam University had to make efforts to complete the following tasks:
• One is to build complete scientific arguments on the necessity of establishing Dai Nam University according to the Government's plan in the national university network and complete economic and technical arguments on the professions that the school intends to train.
• Second, there must be a full set of permanent lecturers of the training majors with the titles, academic titles, and degrees of the lecturers according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
• Third is to prove financial capacity, specifically to mobilize enough 30 billion VND in the bank account contributed by the founders to build the school. This is the minimum charter capital prescribed by the state when opening a new university at that time. According to current regulations, the minimum charter capital prescribed by the Government is 1,000 billion VND.
• Fourth, regarding infrastructure, it is necessary to fully demonstrate the procedures for granting 10.5 hectares of land in the planning from the local government (at that time the People's Committee of Ha Tay province) to build the Dai Nam University complex in the future.
In June 2017, the school's founding council submitted a complete application for a license to the Ministry of Education and Training and the Government Office. After nearly 6 months of reviewing and evaluating the application, the management agencies submitted it to the Prime Minister for permission to establish.
On November 14, 2007, after nearly two and a half years of building conditions to ensure training quality according to regulations, Dai Nam University was granted the Decision to establish by the Prime Minister and the Decision to recognize by the Ministry of Education and Training. Dr. Le Dac Son officially became the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the school.
The first Board of Directors of Dai Nam University consisted of 6 members, specifically assigned as follows:
1 - Mr. Le Dac Son - Chairman
2 - Mr. Do Quan - Vice Chairman
3 - Mr. Le Dinh Dao - Vice Chairman
4 - Mr. Doan Hong Nam - Member
5 - Mr. Le Dac Lam - Member
6 - Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu - Member
II, Outstanding achievements and milestones
After 10 years since its establishment, Dai Nam University has had outstanding achievements:
1 - Rapid increase in training sectors and training levels
Currently, the school has 12 undergraduate training majors in 4 majors.
The Economics block has 5 majors: Finance - Banking, Accounting, Business Administration, Economic Law, Hotel and Tourism Management.
The Engineering block has 3 majors: Construction, Architecture, Information Technology.
Health Block 2 majors include: University Pharmacy, Nursing.
The Social Sciences & Humanities block has 2 majors: Public Relations, English.
Currently, there are 3 postgraduate training majors: Finance and Banking, Accounting and Economic Management.
2 - Rapid increase in the number of students and graduate students at the school:
For university students, if Course 1 had only 230 students, now, after 10 years of establishment, there are nearly 17,000 students studying. Of which, more than 9,000 students have graduated. Currently, there are over 8,000 students studying in the 12 majors mentioned above every year.
Regarding postgraduate training, nearly 200 students have graduated from the first Master's course, and currently there are nearly 600 students from courses 2 and 3 studying in the three above-mentioned postgraduate training programs.
The rate of graduates who have jobs after graduation according to the survey is about 90%.
3 - Rapid increase in both quantity and quality of permanent staff and lecturers.
If in the first school year 2007/2008 there were only 35 permanent staff and lecturers, then by August 2017 this number was 450 people.
Among the 304 permanent lecturers, there are 3 Professors, 27 Associate Professors, 87 Doctors, 126 Masters, 91 Bachelors, a 10-fold increase compared to the first school year.
4 - Rapid increase in training facilities:
- Total land area of the school: 89,643.5 m2 (nearly 9 hectares for building the school complex).
- Total floor area of construction for training and scientific research (including: Hall, lecture hall, classroom, library, learning resource center, laboratory, practice room, multi-purpose gym): 16,631 m2.
Recognition of achievements by state management agencies and social organizations:
- Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training 2007-2012; 2007-2014;
- Emulation Flag for outstanding achievements in university education of the Ministry of Education and Training in the 2015-2016 school year;
- Chu Van An Award for achievements in education and training 2014-2015
- Award for the cause of education development of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education 2015-2016.
III. School's operating principles:
Maximize the potential, creativity and autonomy of every individual working and studying at Dai Nam University to:
- Best training quality, suitable for students' tuition fees.
- Knowledge is equipped with employment right after graduation.
Training human resources to contribute to building a prosperous country without the goal of profit, "Learning to change", that is the goal throughout the actions of Dai Nam teachers and students over the past 10 years and forever in the future.
