Although he had not studied Japanese for long and his study and practice schedule was quite dense, when he heard about the contest, Duy took the initiative to write an essay and send it to the organizers. After a rigorous preliminary round, Nguyen Quang Duy became one of the 21 best candidates in the country, representing Dai Nam University to compete in the final round on March 24 in Da Nang.

In his speech, Duy not only portrayed a panoramic picture of environmental pollution with air pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, ocean pollution, deforestation, hunting, etc., but also pointed out the unpredictable consequences of environmental pollution on the economy, health, life and future of humanity.
“If we do not act promptly and decisively, we will no longer be able to breathe in an atmosphere filled with smoke, dust and toxic substances. Acid rain, drought, floods, heat waves, forest fires, melting ice… will gradually destroy every economy, causing war, poverty and disease globally,” Duy emphasized.

Not only calling on everyone to join hands to save the environment, Duy also offers solutions to help protect the living environment, such as: Reusing paper to protect forests, limiting the use of plastic, especially single-use plastic, refusing to use plastic bags, if forced to use them, they should be collected and reused and recycled, old items that can still be used should be donated to charity, saving electricity by turning off all electrical appliances before leaving the house, not wasting water, instead of driving a car or motorbike, you should ride a bicycle, walk, take the train, plant trees and afforest, say no to hunting and there should be laws to limit the species of animals that are strictly prohibited from hunting...

“Every citizen needs to increase their responsibility to protect the environment. Authorities need to take more decisive action to protect the living environment for the people. Environmental protection needs to be carried out with comprehensive, scientific solutions. Whether the Earth can return to green or not depends on humans…”, Duy emphasized in his presentation.
With a hot topic, logical arguments, and fluent expression, Nguyen Quang Duy's performance received encouragement and high praise from the judges.
Mr. Hashino Nobuo – Chairman of JLAN Association commented: “The environment is a hot issue globally. Duy was very smart in choosing the topic for his presentation. His argumentation, problem-posing, and problem-solving were also very skillful and convincing. Certainly, if he had more time to practice Japanese and not lose his composure, Duy’s presentation would have won a high prize…”

MSc. Nguyen Viet Anh – Vice Principal, Dai Nam University – co-organizer, spoke at the opening ceremony of the final competition.
Sharing the reason for joining the 3rd National Japanese Speaking Contest JLAN Test Cup, Duy said: “This is a big playground, helping me improve my Japanese knowledge and skills, and at the same time, it is also an opportunity for me to connect, exchange, and learn from native teachers and friends from all over the country…”
The representative of Dai Nam University was the only contestant who chose the environment as the topic of his speech. “The environment is essential in people’s daily lives, such as food, drink, air to breathe… However, the environment is being seriously polluted. This means that people’s lives, health, lives and future are being threatened. Young people like me cannot stand aside…” Duy talked about the reason for choosing his speech topic.
