Dai Nam University joins hands to "carry water" up the mountain

55 1200 liter water tanks of Dai Nam University have arrived at the rocky plateau of Sung Trai commune - Dong Van - Ha Giang, contributing to solving the shortage of domestic water during the dry season for the people here.
Sung Trai – a ladle of water for washing rice and vegetables…
When mentioning the Dong Van – Ha Giang stone plateau, people will immediately think of the image of endless ranges of steep rocky mountains, along with difficult and dangerous traffic conditions, bad customs (child marriage, incestuous marriage, illiteracy, etc.), difficult economic and social life, and the scarcity of domestic water during the dry season.
55 water tanks with a total value of 98,450,000 VND from Dai Nam University have reached the people of Sung Trai commune - Dong Van - Ha Giang.
The dry season on the Dong Van stone plateau usually lasts from October of the previous year to April of the following year. Being the core area of the Dong Van stone plateau, Sung Trai commune is known as the “thirsty land”. The scarcity of domestic water, especially in the dry season, makes the lives of households in the commune even more difficult.
Mr. Giang Mi Say - Secretary of the Party Committee of Sung Trai Commune said: " Normally, people in the commune collect rainwater for daily activities but do not have tanks to store water. Therefore, the scarcity of domestic water occurs all year round here. Especially in the dry season, people have to use water as economically as possible. A ladle of water after washing rice will be used to wash vegetables, wash dishes, pots and pans, give water to livestock or water vegetables, wash feet... The severe lack of water has seriously affected the daily life and production of the people".
These water tanks will help people on the rocky plateau solve the problem of water scarcity during the dry season.
Join hands to "carry water" up the mountain
In order to join hands to help people in Sung Trai commune solve the problem of domestic water shortage during the dry season, in the Green Summer Volunteer Campaign 2020, Dai Nam University donated 55 1,200-liter water tanks with a total value of nearly 100 million VND.
Sharing about the policy of donating water tanks to the people of Sung Trai commune, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Principal of Dai Nam University said: " In addition to teaching, learning and scientific research activities, Dai Nam University especially focuses on developing activities to connect and serve the community. Through volunteer activities, the school wishes to bring a real-life experience environment for students to sympathize and share with those in less fortunate circumstances, thereby developing a more complete personality, becoming useful people for society..."
Due to difficult traffic conditions, 55 water tanks could only reach the center of Sung Trai commune.
One coin, several ounces of work
Ms. Cao Thi Hoa added that due to difficult traffic conditions, the truck carrying 55 water tanks was gathered at the People's Committee of Sung Trai Commune and the volunteer student team of 50 students will support the people to "carry" the water tanks, traveling 7-10 km of mountainous roads to give them to each household.
“The school has mobilized 50 healthy and enthusiastic student volunteers to best support the people in transporting and installing water tanks. It costs a penny but the effort is a joy, happiness and meaningful experience for DNU students…” , Ms. Hoa shared.
The transportation route from the commune center to the villages will be managed by the Student Volunteer Team.
Directly participating in the Green Summer Volunteer Campaign 2020 and donating water tanks to the people of Sung Trai commune, Bui Duc Anh - Deputy Head of the Volunteer Student Team of Dai Nam University could not hide his emotions and happiness when he and his "teammates" were able to do small but meaningful things.
“The trip helped us understand more about the difficult and hard life of the people on the Dong Van stone plateau - Ha Giang. Indeed, only by witnessing and "living" with the people can we fully understand what poverty and suffering are and see how much luckier and happier we are. These experiences help us appreciate more what we have, sympathize and share with those less fortunate than ourselves. Hopefully, the water tanks of Dai Nam University and the work of the Student Volunteer Team in the 2020 Green Summer Volunteer Campaign will somehow help make the people's lives less difficult and feel warmer...", Duc Anh confided.
Dai Nam University students excitedly joined the people of the rocky plateau in "carrying water" up the mountain.
People of Sung Trai commune happily received water tanks from teachers and students of Dai Nam University.
