Exactly 12 years ago, on November 14, 2007, the Prime Minister signed a decision allowing Dai Nam University to officially operate and enroll its first class. Since then, Dai Nam University has officially taken November 14 as its founding date. Dr. Le Dac Son was the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University.

12 years of hardship and pride

To achieve this historic decision, Dr. Le Dac Son (former General Director of VP Bank for 9 years) and 12 scientists started to build a project to establish the school under the auspices of the Vietnam Construction Association. After nearly 2.5 years of building the necessary and sufficient conditions, ensuring training quality, facilities, and operating license, Dai Nam University was granted the establishment decision by the Prime Minister and the recognition decision by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The 12-year journey of building and developing Dai Nam University has gone through many difficulties and hardships. There were difficult times when it seemed like it had to "stop". However, Chairman of the Board of Directors Le Dac Son and his colleagues in the Board of Directors, the Board of Management and the staff of the University have overcome all difficulties, conquered challenges to survive and develop strongly as it is today.

On the first day of official operation, the School had to rent a headquarters to work and teach students of courses 1, 2, 3 on the 4th floor of Hesco building (Nguyen Trai - Ha Dong - Hanoi). However, this location was too cramped, hot, and crowded, so the Board of Directors determined to move the headquarters to 56 Vu Trong Phung - Thanh Xuan - Hanoi despite the extremely difficult financial conditions at that time - revenue was not enough to cover expenses. Then, while training and working hard to build, from a low-lying land in Ha Dong (now No. 1 Pho Xom, Ha Dong district), the first 9-storey building was built; the row of Royal Poinciana trees running along the school campus along with 12 rows of dormitories and 3 rows of canteens serving food and accommodation for students were also completed at the same time, meeting the minimum conditions for Dai Nam to confidently expand its training scale.

Since 2015, generations of students of Dai Nam University have had a stable academic space and learning conditions. A green - clean - beautiful learning environment, meeting the learning, resting and relaxing needs of teachers and students is a prerequisite that the school's leaders must implement at all costs. From that policy, the flower garden campus has been continuously built and cared for to become more beautiful every day. The football field, canteen, student dormitory, library, pharmacy practice area, medicinal plant garden, Dai Nam pharmacy, Banking and Finance Practice Center and Accounting and Auditing... have gradually been completed.

In particular, in the past year, the Faculty of Tourism has opened 3 practice hotels for students, including a 3-star hotel in Hanoi, a 4-star hotel in Bac Ninh and a 5-star hotel in Da Nang city for students to both study theory and practice.

Focus on developing staff and lecturers

“Without flour, there is no glue”. The capacity of the staff and lecturers is the key factor determining the quality of university education in the 4.0 revolution period. Realizing that, Dai Nam University always focuses on developing and improving the capacity of the staff and lecturers. After 12 years of construction and development, Dai Nam University has rapidly increased the number of permanent staff and lecturers. Many of the school's staff and lecturers were trained in developed countries such as the US, UK, Australia, Singapore, etc.

Determining that scientific research activities are especially important in the training activities of teaching staff and students, Dai Nam always focuses on scientific and technological research activities and considers it one of the top tasks of the school. Every year, the school organizes quality scientific conferences for students and lecturers.

In the current era of integration, training cooperation with universities in countries in the ASEAN region and beyond is an important activity of a university. Understanding that importance, international training cooperation activities are focused on by Dai Nam University with many international cooperation programs signed annually.

“Dai Nam University has been cooperating in international training with many major universities in the US, UK, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan... In addition, the school also regularly organizes international seminars; provides free Japanese language training for students, and recruits international students to study the school's training majors. Currently, Dai Nam University has more than 100 international students from China, Laos, Cambodia... studying,” said Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh - Vice Principal.

Specialized knowledge in university is a NECESSARY factor to help students establish a career in the future. However, to be successful and overcome difficulties and challenges in life, young people need to have soft skills, which is ENOUGH to work and succeed.

Realizing the importance of soft skills training for students, in 2013, the Board of Directors of Dai Nam University assigned the Faculty of Business Administration to develop and apply the teaching of Soft Skills through practical and useful experiential activities of the Soft Skills Training Camp.

One of the few universities to complete the Education Quality Assessment according to the new set of standards of the Ministry

Since its inception, Dai Nam University has advocated affirming its reputation and brand through the quality of training that combines learning with practice, linking training with reality and the human resource needs of society. In addition to gradually investing in facilities; building updated and modern training programs; selecting elite staff and lecturers; building a professional, modern and dynamic learning environment to help learners develop comprehensively, Dai Nam University pays special attention to quality assessment according to the Ministry of Education and Training's standards.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Board of Management and the determination and consensus of the staff and lecturers in the school, in June 2019, the school completed the Self-Assessment Report of the Ministry and was allowed to sign an External Assessment Contract for educational institutions with the Center for Education Quality Assessment - Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges.

Dai Nam University has conducted the accreditation with a set of 25 standards including 111 criteria, divided into 4 categories: Quality assurance in strategy; Quality assurance in system; Quality assurance in function implementation and Operational results. With all efforts, Dai Nam has completed the accreditation process according to the new standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The tireless actions, the real actions have brought good results to Dai Nam University today, recognized by the State and society: Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, from the Ministry of Education and Training; Emulation Flag for outstanding achievements in higher education from the Ministry of Education and Training and other prestigious awards. And especially, in 2019, on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the University's founding, Dai Nam University was honored to receive the Certificate of Quality Accreditation from the National Quality Accreditation Council.

Over the past 12 years, Dai Nam University has always strived to maximize the potential, creativity, and autonomy of every individual working and teaching at the school.
