Cross-border learning with students of the Chinese Language and Culture Department at Dai Nam University

Starting from the 2022-2023 academic year, students of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture will be able to participate in online classes with experienced lecturers from Changchun University, China. This is a valuable opportunity for students to practice their listening and speaking skills, while enhancing their understanding of Chinese culture and society.

In order to promote international educational cooperation, from the 2022-2023 academic year, the Department of Chinese Language and Culture of Dai Nam University in collaboration with Changchun University (Jilin, China) will open online classes for students of courses K14 and K15. This is an educational activity under the New Chinese Studies program implemented by the Center for Language Exchange Cooperation between China and Foreign Countries and sponsored by the Chinese Government.

The purpose of the cooperation program is to form and enhance students' natural reflexes when using Chinese. And continuously practicing listening and speaking online like this will create good habits to help learn Chinese more effectively.

After 02 semesters, 06 online classes for the subjects Intercultural Communication, Chinese Grammar and Chinese Linguistics 1 have been deployed on the VooV Meeting application. Participating in teaching are Prof. De Hoan Song, Prof. Vuong Ngoc Anh from Truong Xuan University. These are all experienced and professional teachers who are always updated with advanced teaching methods from the education system of other countries. In addition, throughout the online classes, there will be support from teaching assistants from the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, Dai Nam University.

Students actively interact in online classes

Participating in the online class, student Duong Thi Kieu Trinh, class TT 15-03 shared: “Because this is the first time I have been in contact with a Chinese lecturer, I was a bit worried. But after just a few lessons, my friends and I were able to absorb the lecture because the teacher's lectures were very easy to understand. I am very grateful to the School and the Faculty for creating conditions for us to participate in this class. I find this a very interesting and useful form of learning. I hope that activities like this will be replicated more and more.”

During class, teachers from Changchun University are not only enthusiastic in teaching language but also introduce many cultural and social knowledge of China in a lively way. Teachers have combined knowledge in lessons with stories and practical examples to help students understand the lessons quickly and effectively. In addition, stories about culture and life from lectures are also useful and interesting knowledge to help students develop intercultural communication skills.

Adhering to the school's motto of "doing everything that is beneficial to the learners with all our heart and soul", teachers of the Chinese Language and Culture Department are always dedicated and try their best to create the most effective learning conditions for students.

Ong The Vu - a student of class TT 14-06 shared: “I feel very happy to study Intercultural Communication taught by Mr. De Hoan Song. As a student majoring in Chinese language, I think that studying with Chinese teachers is a valuable opportunity. That not only helps me improve my Chinese listening and speaking skills, but also helps me understand the lesson content more deeply, especially the courses on Chinese culture”.

Bui Thi Thuy Trang from class TT 15-03 shared: “I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in an online class with teachers at Changchun University, China. Through the course, I have a better understanding of the history, formation process, structure, meaning... of Chinese characters - this is new knowledge that helps me approach the language more easily” .

Duong Thi Huyen, class TT 15-01, said: “I feel like I learned a lot of interesting things from the online class organized by the school. The knowledge that the teachers imparted to us each time we went to class was very easy to understand, there was a lot of social and cultural knowledge that I had never seen in the books I had read.”

Through training cooperation activities, many opportunities for learning and cultural exchange between students of the two schools and two countries are expanded.

The educational cooperation program between the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, Dai Nam University and Changchun University, China has initially achieved great success. Students of Chinese Language and Culture at DNU have “benefited” greatly from this cooperation. This is also an important step forward of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, marking the success of the international educational cooperation model, contributing to building a cultural and intellectual bridge between the two countries of Vietnam and China. Through this meaningful activity, opportunities for cooperation and cultural exchange between students of the two schools and the two countries have been gradually enhanced.
