At 7:55 a.m. on February 17, Reuters news agency quoted an announcement from the National Health Commission of China saying that as of the end of February 16, mainland China had 2,048 new infections and 105 deaths.

Hubei alone recorded 1,933 new cases and 100 new deaths. Compared to the previous day, the number of new cases in Hubei increased by nearly 5% but the number of deaths decreased from 139 to 100.

To date, Hubei province has had 58,182 infections and 1,696 deaths, of which Wuhan city accounts for 71% of cases and 77% of deaths.

With the new death toll and infections announced, as of 7:55 a.m. on February 17, the world has at least 71,338 infections and 1,775 deaths. In addition, 10,607 people have recovered.

Of the 1,770 deaths, 1,765 were in mainland China, 1 in Hong Kong, 1 in Japan, 1 in the Philippines, 1 in France and 1 in Taiwan.

In Vietnam, according to the latest updated data from the Ministry of Health, as of 6:00 a.m. this morning (February 17), Vietnam has not recorded any new cases positive for Covid-19 in the past 3 days.

16 cases have been and are infected with Covid-19 including: 2 Chinese father and son (2 have recovered and been discharged from hospital); 6 Vietnamese people all returned from Wuhan, China (4 have recovered and been discharged from hospital); 6 Vietnamese people have had close contact with Covid-19 positive patients (1 has recovered and been discharged from hospital); 1 American came to Vietnam, previously transited in Wuhan, China; 1 3-month-old child, had close contact with Covid-19 patient.

There have been 7 cases cured. The World Health Organization (WHO) on February 16 assessed that Vietnam had initiated a response system right from the early stages of the Covid-19 epidemic.
