Covid-19 epidemic update on February 16: Nearly 70,000 infections, 1,669 deaths

According to the update at 9:17 a.m. on February 16 by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, there have been 1,669 deaths and 69,268 cases of acute respiratory infection caused by the new strain of coronavirus (Covid-19) worldwide.

Of the 1,669 deaths , 1,665 were in mainland China, 1 in the Philippines, 1 in Hong Kong (China), 1 in Japan and 1 in France.

In Vietnam, up to now, there have been 16 people who tested positive for Covid-19, of which 7 have been discharged from the hospital . The number of negative Covid-19 tests is 1,068 cases.

China: Death toll remains stable

Previously, according to statistics from the South China Morning Post, as of 6:00 a.m. on February 16, there were 69,031 cases of coronavirus infection worldwide, 1,666 deaths, and 8,142 recoveries.
According to the newspaper, the number of deaths did not fluctuate much compared to February 14 and the number of new infections also decreased on February 15.

According to statistics from the National Health Commission of China (NHC), of the 1,843 new infections in Hubei, Wuhan city accounted for 1,548 cases. Thus, in Hubei province, the epicenter of the Covid-19 epidemic, there were 1,596 deaths and 56,249 infections by the end of February 15.

WHO continues to call for international community's cooperation

On February 15, the World Health Organization called on the international community to work together to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic.

Speaking at the 56th Munich Security Conference taking place in Munich, Germany, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “This is not a job for health ministers alone. The approach and response to the epidemic must be unified and coordinated, guided by public health priorities.”

The head of WHO once again appreciated the measures taken by the Chinese government to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic.
