Don't choose a career based on its name.
Having many years of experience in psychological counseling before the admission season, Mr. Pham Manh Ha - Deputy Head of the Youth Affairs Department, Vietnam Youth Academy shared that many candidates choose a career based on their feelings without careful consideration. They only know the general name of the career without researching each field in depth, so the possibility of failure is very high.
Explaining this statement, Mr. Ha gave a specific example: "Many students ask the question "To become a doctor, what personality and qualities do I need?". That proves that we have not done a thorough research. There will be many specialties such as general medicine, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, diagnosis... Each job has its own requirements, for example, pediatricians need good communication skills because the patients are children, surgeons need surgical skills, thinking and emotional control,... Therefore, if you want to learn about a profession, you need to know what the profession is like, whether it is suitable for you or not, and should not just look at the name and choose."

In addition, Mr. Ha also asked the question: "When choosing a career, should we base it on the number of applications submitted to the school, the competition rate of the school we are interested in or actual recruitment information? Is it true that schools with an entrance score of 28 or 29 points will make it easier for students to find a job after graduation?"
According to Mr. Ha, candidates should research recruitment websites to know the labor needs of each industry, from which they will have the right direction. In addition, he also pointed out the fact that many schools train majors with "catchy" names to attract candidates. Therefore, students should refer to recruitment websites to compare with the training of the school to see if there is any overlap or connection.
Don't choose a career based on psychological and recreational interests.
During the 2016 Admissions Consulting Day in Hanoi, Mr. Pham Manh Ha also emphasized that one should not choose a career based on personal preferences to satisfy personal needs. "You should not think like: choosing an economic school because there are many pretty friends, choosing an information technology career because you like playing games or choosing a tourism industry because you like going out. When working, you must put aside personal feelings of love and hate and put responsibility first," said Mr. Ha.
