Teachers and students of Thap Muoi High School in the last days of review before the 2015 national high school exam.
Students have a pretty steady mentality.
On the morning of June 20, at Thap Muoi High School, the 12th grade students were studying very seriously. Not only were the teachers with many talents selected to come to school to take charge of their classes, but also the homeroom teachers and teachers working in the Youth Union were present at the school to manage the students.
Pham Thi Ngoc Giau - Student of class 12A1 - said: Right after the end of the semester exam, the school organized a review of students according to their university entrance exam registration to organize effective review sessions. Review time is from Monday to Saturday with 5 periods per session. In addition, the school also opens extra tutoring classes for weak students in the afternoon.
As a good student, Ngoc Giau feels quite solid in her knowledge. “Up to this point, the basic knowledge has been consolidated, so teachers mainly spend time in class to deepen knowledge. I am trying my best to achieve my goal of graduating and being admitted to Da Nang University of Economics” – Giau shared.
Also a student at Thap Muoi High School, Nguyen Duc Sang (class 12CBB4) focused on the B block exams. He said he achieved over 20 points/4 subjects in the practice exams.
That is a pretty good result. However, with the desire to be admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Sang said he will have to continue to try harder.
“There are only a few days left until the exam begins. My friends and I have already arrived at the exam sites, surveyed the locations, and rented rooms. Our preparation before the exam is knowledge and some important notes, which our teachers have also regularly reminded us of,” said Nguyen Duc Sang.
Currently, at Thap Muoi High School and other high schools in Dong Thap, teachers have introduced and organized sample exams from the Ministry of Education and Training for students to do, then graded them, from which they can draw out the knowledge that students have not yet mastered to review.
Review still maintains flag salute and class activities
For teachers, even if it is just a review, maintaining the flag salute and class activities is a very effective way to provide students with new information and correct their shortcomings.
Information from Mr. Phan Van Thanh - homeroom teacher of class 12A3, Thap Muoi High School - the school still maintains regular flag salute hours on Mondays and class activities with homeroom teachers on Saturdays.
Homeroom teachers are responsible for checking students' attendance; reminding students who are late or have problems with their learning attitude to ensure effective review.
“In fact, the national high school exam review was organized early and continued in June. The school divided the students into classes according to their subjects.
Specifically, average and weak students study in separate classes and teachers will focus on consolidating and deepening basic knowledge to ensure graduation. The group of good students will focus on improving their knowledge to apply for university. Currently, the students' review attitude is very good, their mentality is very determined" - Mr. Thanh shared.
Teachers contribute to support students in exams
Doc Binh Kieu High School not only has the lowest entrance score in Thap Muoi district (Dong Thap), but the entire school also has up to 30% of students in extremely difficult circumstances; either orphans, some orphans of both parents, or very poor families...
According to Principal Ton Thi Mai Thanh, this year, the school has 214 12th grade students and about 70% are taking the exam at the exam cluster chaired by the Department of Education and Training.
Although the entrance exam is low and is mainly for graduation and admission to colleges and vocational schools, the students' review awareness is very good with 100% of them participating in the review classes at school. The review content of the teachers is also compiled to suit the students' level.
What is special about this school is the teachers' willingness to help and support students not only mentally but also materially.
“It was touching when teachers voluntarily contributed, some fifty, some a hundred dollars to support students taking the exam. In 2014, the school organized lunch for disadvantaged students and will continue to do so this year. For students taking the exam at the cluster hosted by the university, the school will also support part of the cost for them to take the exam,” said Ms. Ton Thi Mai Thanh.
According to Ms. Thanh, in addition to the sprint phase with 10 review sessions per week, the school also has a plan to support weak students from the beginning of grade 10. For grade 12 students, the school will increase the number of lessons from the beginning of the year and provide extra tutoring after hours for weak students.
"To avoid overload, the school has agreed to review for students in a spirit of cooperation, without pressure. Students will be taught where they are weak" - Ms. Thanh shared.
